A getting to know you give-away

Contest Closed! Thanks to all who participated.

About this time last year, I shared 10 random facts (confessions, as I called them) about myself. Now it’s your turn. And to encourage you to participate, I’m going to sweeten the pot a little. Anyone who shares at least three things will be entered in a prize drawing.

If you’re not sure where to start, choose three (or more) of these questions to answer:

  1. What was the last song you were listening to?
  2. How would you explain your job to a child?
  3. What talent would you most like to have?
  4. Is there a book, movie, or song that changed your perspective on life?
  5. What five adjectives best describe you?
  6. What would you do if you have a time machine?
  7. Which super power would you like to have and why?
  8. Where did you go on your last vacation?
  9. What would you title your autobiography?
  10. Have you ever binge watched a television series; which one?

But wait…that’s not all! Subscribe to receive email notices of blog posts, and I’ll send you a small gift.

Now join me for a walk down memory lane. This was one of my favorite movies as a child. I spent countless hours dancing around my room singing this song.

A getting to know you give-away

Gettin’ to know you,
Gettin’ to know all about you.
Gettin’ to like you,
Gettin’ to hope you like me.

Gettin’ to know you,
Putting it my way but nicely.
You are precisely,
My cup of tea.

Gettin’ to know you,
Gettin’ to feel free and easy.
When I am with you,
Gettin’ to to know what to say.
Haven’t you noticed,
Suddenly I ‘m bright and breezy,
Because of all the beautiful and new
Things I’m learning about you
Day by day.

  1. We must be related because I too remember that movie and the song from The King And I, and loved it. The other one that reminds me of growing up is Jonathon Livingston Seagull with music by Neil Diamond. The last vacation was Mexico and it was wonderful! I want to go back, although I’m sure it’s way to hot now. My job would be easy to explain to a child-I work with kids helping them learn to read. I would like the “genie” super power of making things happen in the blink of an eye. ?

    1. Thanks for playing along Cindy. I actually think you do have the genie super power of making things happen–maybe not in the blink of an eye–but definitely making them happen! You are entered in the drawing. Love you!

  2. Great post! Ok, I’m going to play along first then I’m going to go read your answers 🙂 Thanks for sharing at the #WednesdayAIMLinkParty. I shared your post on FGPT 🙂

What was the last song you were listening to? Sammy Hagar: I Can’t Drive 55. (I love that song 🙂 but not so good of a song to listen to when driving).

What talent would you most like to have? I so wish I could draw or paint.

What would you do if you had a time machine? I’d go into the future and see my kids as older adults than they are now and I’d especially like to go see my grandbabies after they’re grown and living their lives (something I probably will never actually see in my lifetime).

What would you title your autobiography? Not sure at this moment but I’m actually writing such a book!

    1. Thanks for sharing Dee, and I love your responses. I too would like to be able to draw or paint. Every time I see a beautiful sunset or clouds over the mountains, I think “If only I could capture that.” Alas, I can barely draw a stick figure. 🙂 Good luck on your book. Hopefully I’ll be buying it someday.

  3. The talent I would most like to have is to be able to sing. I love to sing but I couldn’t carry a tune if my life depended on it. lol The super power I would like is to be able to fix/change things in the blink of an eye, not sure how I would use it but would love to have it. The last series I power watched was Blacklist. What is funny is once I watched all of the seasons and got current, I lost interest. lol I liked this idea of getting to know each other, thank you.

    1. Thanks for playing along Victoria. You have been entered in the drawing. It appears we may be related. 🙂 I would also love to be able to sing and to fix things, but alas those talents are not in my arsenal. And while I did not power watch Blacklist, I did watch it faithfully for several seasons and then lost interest and have never seen how things turned out.

  4. This sounds like fun! Here you go:

    1. The last song I listened to: Hard Times by The Wild Feathers
    3. I’d love to be able to play the cello!
    6. I’d go back to the day the love of my life asked me to marry him and accept this time.
    8. We went to Nashville, TN
    9. She Should Have Said, Yes
    10. Heck, yes! Many! I’ve watched all the BBC detective shows along with all the CSIs, How to Get Away with Murder, Homeland, Scandal…the list goes on.

    1. Thanks for playing along, Pam. You have been entered into the drawing. I played the cello in school for a bit, but sadly I did not keep it up. It sounds like there’s a story in #6.

  5. 2. I take phone calls from customers who have questions about how to do something on their computer. I also sometimes go to the customers office and train them how to do their job on their computer. And sometimes the customer calls with a request that I change something on their computer program for them, or they may ask for me to do a report for them. I spend my days on the computer and on the phone.

    3. It’s not a talent that I’d like to have actually, its a talent that I’d like to use. I have always been a fairly good singer and really really enjoy harmonizing. I would love to have been able to use this talent in some performing way. I am not so much a lead singer, as a backup singer.

    10. Binge watching: I have not actually ever just sat all day and watched any show. BUT I have watched Mad Men, an episode or two a day, for several days straight. And I’d watch it all over again now, even though I just finished it up a month or two ago.

I love The King and I. One of my favorite movies. I like Anna and the King too but not as well.

    🙂 gwingal

    1. Thanks for playing along, Nikki. You have been entered in the drawing. You should definitely find an outlet for your harmonizing. Much of my family got the singing gene, but alas, it passed me by. I love good music though.

  6. What was the last song you were listening to?
“Happiness” from the musical “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” (I have a student learning it)

How would you explain your job to a child?
I help kids talk and sing better.

What talent would you most like to have?
I would love to be able to draw well.

Is there a book, movie, or song that changed your perspective on life?
There are so many, but the first one that popped into my mind is, “The Outsiders” when I read it in 8th grade.

What five adjectives best describe you?
Happy, positive, kind (I hope), loyal, goofy

What would you do if you have a time machine?
I would go back in time and try to soak up all the time possible with my dad.

Which super power would you like to have and why?
I don’t know what this would be classified as, but I wish I could just close my eyes and be wherever I wanted to go. It would save so much time, and I could visit friends and loved ones that are far away so easily!

Where did you go on your last vacation?
Hawaii – for our “babymoon”… And now we’ll never travel again. Haha!

What would you title your autobiography?
Go ahead, sing in your car, and other random life advice. (That’s not a good title. Good thing I have an aunt who writes to help me if I ever decide to write a book.)

Have you ever binge watched a television series; which one?
Yes, Friends and Veep were the shows I binged watched with a newborn and up all hours of the day and night.
If you count watching an episode/night as binge watching, than Kevin and I just finished Game of Thrones that way.

I didn’t expect to answer all those questions, but it was fun, so I couldn’t stop.
    Thanks for the enjoyable activity!
    Love you!

    1. Yeah! I’m glad you answered all the questions and that you had fun doing it. You have been entered in the drawing. I remember reading The Outsiders too, and being really affected by it. I definitely agree with your five adjectives. I would have to add beautiful and funny to the mix. Love you too!

  7. Last song was Mama Mia, I would love to be able to sing (and have everyone enjoy it instead of putting their hands over their ears!). I was binge watching Designated Survivor. It is great to have you link up with us at #BloggingGrandmothersLinkParty and hope to see you next time. I’ve shared on social media.

    1. Thanks Sue. You have been entered into the drawing. I’m with you on the singing. I love beautiful music, but just can’t seem to make it myself. I’ve never watched Designated Survivor, but may have to give it a shot. Thanks for playing along. It’s been fun getting to know a little about everyone.

  8. What was the last song you were listening to?

This Must Be Heaven by Brainstorm

What talent would you most like to have?

    I wish I were a carpenter

Where did you go on your last vacation?

    Williamsburg, VA

Have you ever binge watched a television series; which one?

The Match Game…I love that game show

Thanks for sharing this #BloggingGrandmothersLinkParty. I will share on social media.

    1. Thanks, Clearissa, for playing along. You have been entered into the drawing. I visited Williamsburg about 30 years ago with my sister. We had such a fun time. I love the Match Game too. Right now, my husband and I are watching the old $25,000 Pyramid episodes. What a hoot!

  9. I like to listen to classic rock at times and my favorite is “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin. But I actually like a variety of music: George Strait, Nora Jones, Mumford & Sons, etc.

I’ve always wished I had musical talent of some type!

We went to the Outer Banks of North Carolina on our last vacation.

I binge watched the British show “Doc Martin”.

What a great idea for a post and to get to know one another better. Thanks for sharing it with us at the #BloggingGrandmothersLinkParty!

    1. Thanks, Teresa, for playing along. You have been entered in the drawing. I too love Stairway to Heaven. It was my absolute favorite when I was in high school and always inspires fond memories.

  10. What a fun post!!
If I had a time machine, I’d go back in time and have a lunch date with my mom & dad. The talent I’d most like to have is to be a “people person.” My last vacation was a weekend get away to Lava Hot Springs, Idaho.

    1. Thanks for playing along, Lori. You’ve been entered in the drawing. It’s been years since I’ve been to Lava Hot Springs, but I used to love it. How was it?

  11. I adore posts like this. Love to take those silly Facebook quizzes. Personality surveys. Love language tests.

So, playing along, here are my Qs and As:

How would I explain my job to a child? Many children would know what a librarian is but they may have had experience with the generic ‘shhh-y’, spinsterly stereotype. I would tell them that as a librarian I purchase and organize books and create ways to get children excited about books and reading, as well as locating information on their own.

Is there a book, movie or song that changed my perspective on life? Maybe not on life, exactly but the movie The Reader made me view the Holocaust from another perspective.

Five adjectives to describe me: energetic, hard-working, creative, silly, scatter-brained

    1. Thanks Leslie for playing along. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ve certainly enjoyed reading the responses and getting to know you guys a little better. You have been entered in the drawing, which will be announced momentarily! I loved your description of a librarian. Thanks for helping children get excited about books and reading. I adore books and am in heaven in a bookstore or library.
