Friday favorites: celebrating 19 years of marriage

Nineteen years ago, Larry and I took a leap of faith, trusting that love would see us through. We each brought two teenagers into the mix, so it was quite a leap.

That was then - our wedding day 1/24/1999

But guess what? It worked! Love did see us through, and here we are 19 years (and a few gray hairs) later, heading out to celebrate our anniversary at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse.

This is now - our 19th anniversary 1/24/2018

For today’s Friday Favorites, I thought I’d share a few of my favorites photos from the years in between. (Funny thing, we have a lot more photos together once smart phones and selfies became a thing. Before then, one or the other of us was usually behind the camera.)

Of course, that’s just a sampling of the many good times we’ve had in 19 years. And did you notice the evolution of Larry’s beard? Here’s to the next 19 years!

  1. Hi Christie,
Congratulations to you both. Blending families can sometimes be a challenge.
In answer to your questions, it will be 42 years in May. Antarctica with National Geographic was definitely one of the more memorable trips, made especially wonderful because our son was with us.
Hmm. What has happened this week? I guess dinner with friends would qualify.

  2. Going to be 48 years this July! It looks like a long time when you write it down.

Most memorable vacation for us is really too hard to answer. However, we loved visiting China, Cambodia, Tajikistan, Germany, and France in particular.

Good thing was taking our grandson to goalie hockey school to watch adults working with the younger athletes.

    Congratulations on your 18th anniversary!

    1. Wow–48 years is impressive. Time flies, doesn’t it? It sounds like you’ve had some wonderful adventures, visiting all those countries around the world. I also love seeing one generation passing on its skills to the next, especially when the next generation includes my grandchildren. Have a great weekend!

  3. Happy anniversary to one of my favorite couples!! You and Larry are so great together, and what a big & fun family that has come from your union!
Kevin and I have been married for 5 years. Our 6th anniversary is just 5 months away! Wow!
I feel like my most memorable vacation was the week we spent in Oceanside, CA. It wasn’t anything fancy. We just rented a condo and had lots of relaxing time together. It actually wasn’t even that sunny (my vacation preference), but something about it was just magical!
Something good that happened this week is Kevin and I have been really productive and started organizing our basement (EEK!). It’s a big job. Our basement is unfinished right now (and filled with storage), and we want to finish it to make more room for our family. We normally wouldn’t do that kind of thing during the week, but were just trying to do a little bit at a time. It’s hard to do a big project with a toddler anyway. Anyway, I’m proud of us for that.
    Love you!
    Liz

    1. Ah, thanks Liz. I can hardly believe you and Kevin are going on six years. Where does the time go? I’m impressed with you tackling such a big project with a toddler in the house, but I think you’ve got the right attitude–one small step at a time. I love you guys!

  4. Congrats on 19 years! It always warms my heart when folks are still so happy together after many years.

We celebrated 25 years last year…. and took our African Safari trip as part of that celebration. Definitely one of our best vacations. But we also have wonderful memories of hiking in various National Parks – Glacier, Teton, Arches, and Zion some of our favorites.

This week – I just kept with the program… which is what these 2 months is all about. And I’m feeling OK through it. Plus we had a lovely dinner and local theater date last night…a favorite activity for me.

Wishing you many more years of hair-monitoring selfies.

    1. Thank you Pat, and congratulations on 25 years. As you said, it’s always nice to hear about couples who manage to grow together through life’s experiences. An African Safari sounds magical and is something I would like to do. I’m happy to hear that you are feeling okay and were able to enjoy a night at the theater. Here’s to many more happy, healthy days!

  5. Congrats to you and your husband!

My husband and I have been married 15 years, and we were together for 13 years before that. It’s hard to pick a favorite trip… maybe Cuba or our 5-week stay in Oaxaca… but we’ve had so many adventures.

Your pictures are cute. I need to remember to have our picture taken together more often. Our attempts at selfies always look terrible so I need to ask someone else to take the pic.

    1. Twenty-eight years is impressive. It sounds like you’ve had some great adventures during that time. I agree selfies are not the most attractive photos. My husband is better at it than I am, but I’m going to start asking others to take some of us together. Have a lovely weekend!

  6. From your photos, it is easy to see that you and Larry have had lots of fun times together. What a great idea to look back at your special moments. Rob and I have been together for ten years, and are coming up on our seventh wedding anniversary.

  7. Christie,
Congrats on your anniversary! What fun times you have had together and hopefully MANY MORE!
My husband and I have been married for almost 35 years. We have had many wonderful vacations together, but nothing as extravagant as you two!
I would say that when our children were young, my favorite was when we went to Disney World in Orlando.
And now that we are empty nesters, it was our trip to Cancun last year with just our sons and their wives (no grandchildren along). As much as I love my grandchildren, it was so nice to have conversations with our children and not be distracted by their kiddos!
My husband and I head out to Vegas next week and I am hopeful that it will be a top 10 vacation for us! It’s 10 degrees here right now, but will be 75 when we get to Vegas!
    Woo Hoo!

    1. Thirty-five years is impressive. Congratulations. I agree there are times when it’s nice to get together with just the adults, no matter how much fun we have with the grandchildren. I hope you have a wonderful time in Vegas. Soak up the warmth!

  8. Happy 19th Christie and Larry! Richard and I were married on January 21, 2000. It was a great year to be married because it is easy to remember — and easy to know how many years we have been married for (18 years last week)!
    BTW – Gorgeous wedding photo!

  9. Congrats to you and your husband! Dirk and I will have been married 5 years this month. We met 7 years ago, online. The most memorable trip we ever took was a weekend holiday to Scotland. The best thing that has happened this week was that we had an immigration meeting and our visas for Germany have been extended another 3 months(until we can take our A.1 language exam).

    1. Congratulations on seven years together and on your visa extension. Good luck on the language exam. Did you and Dirk have a long-distance relationship for awhile, or were you both living in the same country? I’ve never been to Scotland or Germany, but would love to go.
