Friday favorites: Happy Thanksgiving!

This year’s Thanksgiving was a quiet celebration–just me and Larry–at the luxurious Grand America Hotel.

We checked in the night before and were treated to this stunning sunset outside our window.

Thanksgiving morning started with a light breakfast, beautifully served in our room.

Then we played Yahtzee while we watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on television. I was especially grateful, since I rolled a Yahtzee early on and went on to win! (Note the worn out Yahtzee board. I guess we’ve played a few times. :-))

After the parade, we watched the National Dog Show, which has become a Thanksgiving Day tradition for us. This cutie did not take Best of Show, but was definitely one of my favorites.

We chose to have Thanksgiving dinner in our room and avoid the crowds. The hotel called to tell us they were running late and would give us a 20-percent discount. Late turned out to be 10 minutes. I’ll take a 2-percent per minute discount any day! We went with the traditional roasted turkey, stuffing, and potatoes.

Followed by a not-so-traditional, but delicious, dessert.

That evening, we were finally ready to venture out of our room and went all the way downstairs 🙂 to get a cup of coffee and look at the hotel’s Christmas windows.

That was our Thanksgiving. I hope yours was just as wonderful, however you chose to spend it. I’d love to hear all about it. Please take a minute to share in a comment below.

As far as what I’m thankful for, there are so many things. One of them is that Sue at Sizzling Toward Sixty invited me to participate in her Blogging Grandmothers Talk Gratitude post. Please take a look.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving, Christie –
It sounds like your Thanksgiving was wonderful. Thank you for sharing this.
I checked out your Gratitude Post on Sue’s site. We do have so much to be thankful for. Gratitude itself seems to mysteriously multiply what we already have.

  2. We had a different Thanksgiving this year. For the first time in about 20 years, I did not cook. That felt odd! I watched the parade in my PJs instead of prepping stuffing & putting a turkey in the oven. Then, yup, the dog show. That little girl handler was darling! Then, with such a busy morning, I took an afternoon nap…does this sound too lazy? Dinner at a friends house…I brought the wine. A very different Thanksgiving day for me; in the past I’ve hosted up to 29 family members for a sit down thanksgiving dinner…including the stress & exhaution that requires. But things change. Family dynamics change. I’m feeling grateful for wonderful friends who even shared leftovers with me.

    1. There is no truer statement-times change. I think the secret to happiness is embracing the change, adapting to new realities. I’m glad you enjoyed the relaxation that came with your change of circumstance.

  3. I love your quiet Thanksgiving! Starting with the sunset and ending with that fabulous looking dessert! Where is this hotel located?
Ours was quiet as well. We spent it at home most of the day not really doing much and then went to my husband’s sister’s house which is on the river and watched the sunset and sat around a campfire. It was very pleasant.
