Friday favorites: words that flow

I guess you know by now that I am in love with words, beautiful words that flow from the tongue and dance in your ears. With that in mind, this week’s Friday favorites is all about words that flow.

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” ~Lao Tzu

“Control is an illusion! Trying to control everything will drive you insane. You cannot predict the outcome. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment. Don’t attach to control or outcome. You can’t fight every battle. You won’t win every battle you fight. Don’t torment yourself. Don’t live a tormented life. Flow with, not against. Keep trying, keep moving in a positive direction. Keep learning, growing. Never give up. Keep helping yourself.” ~Akiroq Brost

“Go with the flow. Force nothing. Let it happen, or not happen…trusting that whichever way it goes, it’s for the best.” ~Mandy Hale

“Being passive is not the same as being peaceful. If you aren’t doing what you know, in your heart, you want to do, you are NOT going with the flow. You are going against the flow. Your reactions, emotions, desires, and talents are all part of the flow of life. Ignoring them is passive resistance. Let yourself go.” ~Vironika Tugaleva

  1. Like you, I’m a lover of words and have been ever since I started keeping a notebook beside my bed when I was a kid so I could write down the quotes that inspired me then. I have so many favorites, but because I’m reading Chesterton right now, I’ll share one of his:
“God is strong enough to exult in monotony. It’s possible that God says every morning, ‘Do it again’ to the sun; and every evening, ‘Do it again’ to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.”

  2. Hi, Christie – Thank you for sharing these very inspirational quotes. What a great way to start a day! One of my favourite ‘flow quotes’ is from American Actress, Grace Gealey.

“We may not know what each day has in store for us. We could be gone tomorrow. Any minute could truly be our goodbye. But we do have this moment. This time. Today. Right now. It takes way more effort to shell out hate then it does to allow love to flow freely in our lives. After all, it’s what we were born to do.”

  3. Today’s quote in my day planner goes along with this: “Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.” Soren Kierkegaard. Have a great weekend Christie!

  4. Hi Christie, Thank you for sharing these inspirational quotes. The following quote is in my planner from C.S. Lewis: ‘You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.’ My week is going very well, enjoying a bit of everything that makes me feel good. Life’s flow right now is perfect for me. Have a fantastic weekend!

    1. Natalie, I’m so happy to hear that things are going well for you. That quote is great for today. We just had a retirement party for two ladies in my office–one with 25 years of service and one with 34 years! I’m sure they are off to chase new goals and dreams.

  5. Christie, while I don’t have a flow quote to share, you inspired me to look for quotes on my own word-of-the-year (soar)… and I just got lost for 45 minutes searching for that! So, here’s my fav from that….

“Just try new things. Don’t be afraid. Step out of your comfort zones and soar, all right?” Michelle Obama

I also found “Soar High in the Direction of Your Dreams” which I’m going to use as well. Thanks for the inspiration!

  6. I particularly loved that quote by Akiroq Brost – I am always working on my need to control everything (ducks in a row etc) One of my favourite quotes about letting go of control and going with the flow is: “It’s not about controlling. It’s about being present, being open, being aware, and allowing it to come.”

  7. My daily mantra is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. I repeat this often. I like the quotes you have listed and a number of the ones commenters have listed a number of them hit home for me and I need to add them to my thoughts.

    1. I’m glad you were able to find some quotes that spoke to you, Victoria. Also, thanks for adding your mantra to the list. I suspect it will be just what someone needs today. That’s what I love about blogging!
