My summer bucket list: 16 things I plan to do

My Summer Bucket List

Tomorrow is the official start of summer. With temperatures reaching triple digits here in Utah, it definitely feels like it! Knowing how time flies, and not wanting to reach the end of the season asking “Where did the summer go and why didn’t I do anything?,” I am joining a group of blogger buddies in posting a Summer Bucket List. I’ll check in periodically and let you know how it’s going.

So without further ado–my Summer Bucket List, in no particular order:

  1. Go on a girls trip.
  2. Spend at least six weekends at Hawkes Landing.
  3. Complete three hikes from the EMI Wellness list.
  4. Drink a watermelon jalapeño margarita.
  5. Eat a breakfast, lunch, and dinner outside.
  6. Read three books.
  7. Commit six anonymous acts of kindness and leave pay it forward cards.
  8. Take grandchildren to a play at Desert Star Playhouse.
  9. Go out to lunch with each of my daughters.
  10. Take a family trip to Bear Lake.
  11. Run 75 miles (over the summer, not all at once).
  12. Complete the Beach Body PiYo series.
  13. Go to a movie (in a theater, not watching from my couch).
  14. Eat a Moose Tracks milkshake from Arctic Circle.
  15. Do one thing that scares (stretches) me.
  16. Try three new things (maybe go someplace I’ve never been, taste something I’ve never eaten, try a new activity).

  1. I find if i don’t plan specific things with dates at the beginning of summer, time flys by and they don’t happen. I don’t have an actual list, but I may steal some ideas from yours!

  2. Oh, I can’t read to read your follow ups in that a lot of your items sound wonderful, like just to start, a watermelon jalepeno margarita? Oh my! (Though I’d probably need the jalepenos left out – spicy hot lightweight here!)

    Utah is such a beautiful state. We’ve RV’d there many times, and have plans to return in the summer of 2018 to get to the three National Parks we’ve not yet visited there – Canyonlands, Capital Reef and Arches. I’m looking forward to the photos from the various outdoor pursuits you’ve listed.

    1. I’m actually a bit of a wimp when it comes to spicy. I tried this margarita last summer, and it wasn’t too hot, just a tingly aftertaste. If you get up near Salt Lake City in your Utah visit, perhaps I can treat you to one!

  3. Love your list Christie and it really makes me feel like Summer with all of your outdoor plans. We are in Winter atm but where I live in Australia it is gorgeous sunny days and cool mornings and evenings. 75 miles run wow is that all at once? I go by Km’s so will need to check that out. Enjoy your summer it sounds like one I would enjoy.

    1. I’ve had the running question a couple of times now, so I better clarify. The goal is to run 75 miles total over the summer. My favorite race length is 10K (closer to six miles), though I have done a marathon. Right now I’m not training for any race, so I just need some goal to keep me moving, thus the 75 miles.

  4. Wait. 75 miles straight? So an ultramarathon?! That’s impressive. I’ve run two marathons but prefer the half. But no way Jose I’m doing anything longer! I’d love to visit Utah some day! It’s a bit of a drive from FL though! One day!!

    1. I guess I should clarify, I’m aiming to run 75 miles total over the summer. I’m not training for anything right now and want to be sure I have motivation to keep running. I’ve run one marathon, several halves, and a couple of 10Ks, and I prefer the half or 10K. A marathon is just a bit too much of a commitment for me. We’ve been to Florida a couple of times to board a cruise, but never to stay. Do you love it?

  5. Love the idea of aiming to run a certain number (75) of miles this summer. I am going to borrow that. My number would be significantly smaller, I am afraid. Will need to add an addendum to my bucket list for all of the great ideas I’ve read on everyone else’s lists. I should have just posted mine the day after everyone else went “live”. Ha!

    Pray tell, where would one find a recipe for a watermelon jalapeño margarita? I have pledged to mix up one new cocktail and would love for it to be said margarita!

    Do you follow the 21 Day Fix eating plan? I need to get back to my BeachBody DVDs and Shakeology the minute I finally get back home tomorrow!

    1. Thanks for pulling us together for this bucket list link, Leslie. I too have gotten so many good ideas from everyone’s lists. I’ve never mixed my own watermelon jalapeño margarita. I got mine last summer at Taqueria 27 and have been dreaming of another ever since. If you find (or create) a recipe for one, I’d love to hear how it turns out! I have not tried the 21 Day Fix. I am a lifetime Weight Watchers member, so I follow that program. But I love the Beach Body DVDs. After three days of PiYo, I am really feeling it–but it’s a good pain. Thanks again and good luck on your bucket list!

    I like that you have a mix of different things and a lot of focus on fitness and wellness.

    But your six random acts and pay it forward cards is the one that really touched me the most. What an absolutely wonderful idea!

    Shouldn’t we all have that on our lists?

    1. Ah, thank you. So far I have left two pay-it-forward cards. It was fun for me, if nothing else. I hope the recipients enjoyed them. I’m looking forward to the 7/21 bucket list updates!
