Winter bucket list and fall wrap-up

Winter bucket list and fall wrap-up

Ready or not, winter has arrived (for those of us in North America, at least). That means it’s time to wrap up the Fall Bucket List and commit to a new Winter Bucket List.

FALL WRAP-UP

When I last reported, I had just three open items on my list. If I give myself a little leeway in the interpretation of “complete,” I was able to accomplish everything on the list this time!

  1. Try a new workout. Complete.
  2. Go on at least one fall hike. Complete.
  3. Fix up my exercise room (with Larry’s help). While we have postponed fixing up the larger room until after the first of the year, we did fix up my current smaller room. Larry hung my medals rack, white board, and photo; and I cleaned out everything else, purging any items I no longer use. So I’m calling this complete, even though the goal changed slightly over the fall months.

Winter bucket list and final fall update

Friday favorites: hanging my medals

  1. Spend one full week at Hawkes Landing. Complete.
  2. Buy and put together a jigsaw puzzle. Here’s the other iffy one. I did buy the puzzle and worked on it some, but am nowhere near completion. That said, the goal was really about having fun, and I am having fun with it. I’m just stretching the fun out a little longer. Therefore, I’m calling this one “mission accomplished.”

Fall bucket list - work on a jigsaw puzzle

  1. Weekly pumpkin sampling through November. Complete.
  2. Create a So What? Now What? Facebook page. Complete.
  3. Learn one new blogging skill. Complete.
  4. Read Let Your Life Speak. Complete.
  5. Research and plan a special activity for the granddaughters. Complete.
  6. Send three handwritten notes. Complete.
  7. Reach out to my best friend from elementary school and junior high. (That’s me in the middle, for some reason wearing a turtle neck in the summer.) Complete.

WINTER BUCKET LIST

That brings us to winter’s list. The approach of breaking my goals into four categories worked so well for fall, I’m going to repeat the pattern.

Health and fitness

  1. Try three new healthy recipes.
  2. Choose a 10k race and get registered.
  3. Sign up for a personal session with a Utah Retirement Systems representative (financial fitness).

Joy

  1. Visit the Midway Ice Castles.
  2. Attend sangha with my daughter.
  3. Celebrate New Year’s in Mazatlán.

Learning and growth

  1. Improve blog photography, specifically backgrounds and lighting.
  2. Research https and decide whether (and if so, how) to make the transition.
  3. Read a new personal development book. (I’m looking for suggestions!)

Relationships

  1. Send a card a month.
  2. Plan and carry out an activity with the grandsons.
  3. Celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary.

And that’s my list. I’d love to hear all about your winter plans. Grab your peppermint mocha, put a log on the fire, and join in the fun. (Of course, our Australian friends are working on summer bucket lists.) Either way, we’d love it if you’d link up with us. 1. Christie, I like how you’ve set it up by area. I’m going to think about my own list similarly. I’ve found in the past, one area of life dominates….this could help with some balance! Happy holidays!

    1. Thanks Pat. Categorizing by areas of value has helped me be sure that where I’m spending my time and energy contributes to the things I value in life. Good luck with your list and happy holidays!

  2. Sounds fun. I love your race medal holder. I need to find one for my husband and my daughter.

Enjoy New Years in Mazatlan. I plan to be in the Mayan Riveria.

  3. First of all, big round of applause for completing everything on your fall list. I didn’t post my final update today but will this weekend. I am not sure if I have finished my list so will be interested to find out!

We have several similar activities planned for winter. I always like how you break your list down into areas of your life or categories of fun. I am going to be reading a book and following a program called Finding Your Balance in January. Holler, if you would like to know more.

Also hoping to improve my photography. It is just so darn easy to use my phone camera rather than my big Sony. But I need to quit being so all about easy!

Would love to join you for your ice castle adventure. The photos look amazing, Can’t wait to see the ones you take! Had to look up sangha – not sure I understand what that will be but look forward to finding out more. And Mazatlan? Oh, yeah, baby!!!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays. So pleased to have discovered you and the other gals who are blogging grandmothers.

    1. Thank you Leslie, and thanks for introducing me to the idea of seasonal bucket lists–so much more fun and productive than New Year’s Resolutions, for me anyway. I would love to hear more about the Finding Your Balance. I believe you have my email address. Cheers and merry Christmas!

  4. I really like how you set up your list as well, and may do something similar come 2018. And I continue to appreciate your active lifestyle, and your focus on health and fitness in your winter bucket list. So inspiring!

I also love your revamped exercise room, particularly your medal display hanger. I currently have all of my race medals shoved into a shoe box, but your idea is much, much nicer!

Wishing you a Very Merry Christmas, and the Happiest of New Year’s, Christie!

    1. Thanks Tamara. I had my medals hanging on every available spot–corners of picture frames, doorknobs, etc., so it’s nice to have them all in one place. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  5. You have such great lists and you accomplished so much! Thank you for inspiring me to make bucket lists! I have needed to make lists for the longest time, and I never get to doing it! Bad, I know! I’ve heard a lot about the Midway Ice Castles, but I have never been there before! Congratulations on 19 years coming up! That’s is awesome!

    1. Thanks Natalie. I’ve never been to the ice castles either, but I’ve been wanting to the last couple of winters. This year I am going to do it! Maybe I’ll combine my 19th anniversary celebration and a visit to the ice castles. Thanks for stopping by. Happy holidays!

  6. Well done with your Fall list completion and creating a new meaningful winter list, Christie! It’s so much more effective and rewarding when we align our actions with what we value, and a simple list works beautifully. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family! Look forward to reading your updates in the new year.

  7. Great lists – both the one you completed and your next one. I hope you are enjoying a much-deserved sense of accomplishment. You might think about reaching out to other bloggers about self-hosting (I don’t). Their opinions would be valuable. I know of several who changed to http, then changed back.

  8. Great job on accomplishing your fall goals! That’s awesome. I keep seeing people working on puzzles lately and I really think I need to get one! I haven’t done one in a long, long time, but it seems like something nice to do at night when everyone is watching TV. 🙂

    -Lauren

    1. Hello Lauren. Thanks for commenting. You’re right about the puzzle. During “TV time” is usually when I work on mine. Sometimes it just for a few minutes until I fit a couple of pieces; other times I stay at it longer. It’s fun either way. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  9. I’m up late or early, depending on how you view it, doing my winter solstice wish list. But got stuck until I read this…. by category and maybe by season will shake me out of my torpor.. At my age, those big, broad, over-arching goals nor longer fit. I’ve done them by now.. It’s the smaller seasonal that, now, suit. Thank you for you guiding light.

    1. I’m glad I could help, Beth. In the past, I’ve done big goals too, and for awhile that worked for me. Then I got stuck as well. When Leslie introduced me to the seasonal bucket lists, it felt right. We’d love to have you join us in the link-up.

      Merry Christmas!

  10. Hi Christie! I love your exercise room and I was given a medal rack for my 60th Birthday. I’ve yet to hang it but they are a great idea. Well done on your Fall Achievements and I love your headings for Winter especially Joy – we can all do with more of that in our lives. I’m hoping to improve my blog photography as well so perhaps I need to add that to my list. Have a very happy Christmas and a fabulous New Year, Christie. It has been so lovely to connect with you over the last year. xx

  11. I like this idea. Small goals. Obtainable goals. And I love knowing that we are in about the same place in our blogging lives. Keep reaching Christie and pushing me to reach with you.
    🙂 gwingal
