Temporarily closed for reconstruction

The end of the year is approaching. It’s a perfect time for taking stock and making changes. For me, this year, that means updating my blog. (I still have the same theme and photos that I used the day I started my blog in October 2014!) It’s time for a remodel.

Different colored paint smears.

I will be taking a few weeks off from posting in order to focus on that work and enjoy the holidays. I hope you will join me again in my new digs after the first of the year.

See you in 2023!

  • Happy Thanksgiving & 10 things I am grateful for

I was going to forego the usual Thanksgiving “Things I’m Grateful For” post, considering Friday Favorites are kind of a weekly thank you list, but then I felt a strange tugging to do it. Maybe it’s all the whining I’ve done lately. I feel the need to do public penance and acknowledge the many blessings…

  • Happy Grandparents Day!

There are so many wonderful things about being a grandparent: obviously, the spoiling, the cuddling, the adventures, and the sleepovers. One thing I especially love is hearing the delightful things that come out of their mouths. Remember that show “Kids Say the Darnedest Things?” Well, if you have grandchildren, you know it’s true. Last summer I…

  • A reluctant viewer’s take on the Barbie movie

When I first heard that a Barbie movie was coming out, I paid no attention. I assumed it was a children’s movie, and well, our youngest grandchild is a teenager now, so it held no interest for me. Then one of my teenage granddaughters said she couldn’t wait for the release, and shortly after, I…

  • Christmas carols: for mature audiences only?

I love Christmas music. From the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas night, that’s pretty much all I listen to. There are songs that make me smile, some that make me feel nostalgic and tender, and a few that make me go, “Huh? What they’d just say?” I recently read Vikki Claflin’s Laugh Lines post about…

  • Looking for blog ideas? Feel free to borrow one of these.

Sometimes the ideas just don’t come. I was in that situation last week, so I took a blogging break. No big deal. But this week, I really want to post something…and I do have a couple of starts…but nothing that I’m feeling excited about. So before I pursued one of those half-baked ideas, I thought…

  1. I’ve been toying with the idea of redoing my blog template over the next few weeks, too. But then I remember it’s December so I’ll probably just goof off instead. Good luck & Happy Holidays!

    1. I understand the feeling, Ally. I’ve been toying with the idea for a while too, but was pushed into making the change now, as my old theme isn’t compliant with the latest version of WordPress. Happy holidays to you and yours!

    1. Thank you Janis. I’ve been thinking of updating my theme for awhile. I was given a shove when my old theme wasn’t compliant with the latest WordPress update. Happy holidays to you and yours!

  2. Nothing like a new year coming for a refresh. May it all go well. Thanks for your contributions to my blog link up too…and it will continue from 4 Jan. Happy Holidays, Christie. I look forward to seeing the ‘new look’ too. Denyse.

  3. Hi Christie – have a great Christmas and I look forward to seeing your new, fresh site in the new year. I used to change mine around quite regularly, but now I just update my profile pic occasionally to reflect the fact that I’m 8 years older than when I started! See you in the new year xx I still have another couple of posts before I rest over Christmas/New Year and then back with my new #WOTY for 2023.

    1. Hello Leanne. I do feel a little “guilty” every time I look at my seven-year-old pic. I just didn’t have a good one to replace it with. Then when my theme “broke” with the WordPress update, I decided it was time to put in the effort to update everything. I look forward to connecting with you in the new year. Until then, enjoy the holidays!
