Thank you notes: little bits of gratitude from spring 2022

Happy spring! And not a moment too soon. Of course, as I write this, my lawn is covered with snow. Welcome to spring in Utah. Don’t break out the flip flops quite yet…or at least keep them side-by-side with the snow boots.

I don’t typically publish Thank You Notes mid-month, but I missed March altogether, and I’ll be on vacation the final week of April, so I thought “What the heck, let’s get crazy and post Spring Thank You Notes on a random day in April!”

Thank you Mother Nature…

Cherry blossoms against a blue sky.

…for your beautiful…

A dark, snowy road.

…indecisive…

White spring blossom.

…delightfully surprising…

Snowy yard.

…spring. I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but I’d be ever so pleased if you’d save the snow for the mountains and bring us some warmer April showers…or even sunshine…in the valley. My toenails are painted bright pink, and my sandals are raring to go!

Thank you St. Patrick’s Day…

Donut with green sprinkles.

…for an excuse to eat donuts with green sprinkles…

Fingernails and toenails painted green.

…and paint my fingernails and toenails green. Thank you everyone who brought treats to work that day. Thank you Bobbi and Jenny for keeping my nails looking good.

Thank you Dad…

An elderly man and his two adult daughters.
Sister Cindy, stepfather David, and me (Christie)

…for a lovely visit. Thank you Mark for snapping this pic. Thank you Southern Utah for the perfect weather. Thank you Mark and Cindy for spending your long weekend with us.

Thank you swimming pool…

…for the weekend fling. I can’t wait until we can spend more time together. I miss you! Thank you Randy and Becky for keeping everything in tip-top shape in our absence.

Thank you strawberry shortcake…

Strawberry shortcake with whipped cream.

…for being a delicious springtime treat. Thank you blueberries for joining the party. Thank you whipped cream in a can for…well, for being your tasty, fun-loving self.

Thank you EMI Health…

Woman flexing her muscles on a hike.

…for the beginning of a new hiking challenge and the encouragement to hit the trails. Thank you Jordan River Parkway for always being there…close to home…well-maintained…and good for the body and soul. On a side note, the trail is beginner level, paved and gentle, rolling hills. The muscle flexing isn’t about accomplishing a difficult feat…it is the required symbol to show that the hike was completed during this year’s challenge. That said, I think we should all flex our muscles today each time we accomplish any task…no matter how small!

Thank you Larry…

Man and a woman in a restaurant.

…for being born, for living 63 years (and counting), for spending the last 25 of them with me, and for allowing me to celebrate you on your birthday. Thank you Maddie for taking this photo. And, of course, thank you Ruth’s Chris for another delicious meal. You never disappoint.

Thank you Primary Children’s Hospital…

Teenager giving thumbs up in a doctor's office.

…and specifically Wren’s cancer team for taking such good care of Wren, for being not only professional, but kind and personable, for making this challenging time a little less difficult. Thank you scientists and healthcare workers everywhere for your dedication to fighting cancer. Thank you Wren for being a superhero in my eyes (even if radiation doesn’t actually give you superpowers). Thank you Jessi for your motherhood superpowers of love, resilience, creativity, and just the right amount of crazy…oh, and for letting me steal this photo from your Facebook page.

And that’s a wrap for this special episode of Spring Thank You Notes.

  1. I need to mine the good feelings of gratitude today, as I’ve been really upset by a piece of UK news. I’ll not give it airspace though.

    My three things are:
    1. A lovely, leisurely video call with my daughter. Although I absolutely adore my grandchildren, they do get in the way of a 1-2-1 conversation with my best girl.
    2. Himself came home early, so we have the entire afternoon to spend together, unlike the snatched couple of hours we usually get.
    3. We have a long holiday weekend ahead for Easter, so neither of us are back at work until Tuesday. Yay!

Spring has sprung here and although the weather is up & down, we don’t get snow, so it’s all good for being outdoors. I’ve not painted the toenails yet, but shall be booking in a pedi soon. Another thing to look forward to – thank you Christie for the reminder to focus on the good and what we can control 🙂

    1. I’m always happy to inspire a bout of gratitude, Debs. Your three good things are good indeed. Quality time with family is the best, and when it’s a surprise, it’s even better! Enjoy your holiday weekend!

  2. Hi Christie – what a mixed bag of big and small joys. That last photo was the most moving of all and I wish Wren all the best as she kicks cancer’s butt. Also a lovely photo of you and Larry enjoying being together – nothing beats being with someone for so long and still loving them!

    1. Thank you, Leanne. Cancer is a scary thing, and we are so grateful to have caring experts and loved ones to help along the way. And, I couldn’t agree with you more about loving someone deeply after so many years. There is something to be said for having been together through life’s trials, joys, and adventures. Here’s to many more!

  3. Thank you Sweetheart! I couldn’t think of my journey without you and our family!
We’ve been Blessed with four great children, who have giving us four amazing daughter and son in laws which have given us 10 amazing grandkids!
(and a few grandkids partners)! And down the road I see Great Grandkids! NOTE to Grandkids, there is plenty of time, we don’t need them yet?

    1. Thank you, Donna. I’m looking forward to even more hiking this year. And I’m working on the snow. I’ve been telling it how beautiful the mountains are. There’s really nothing more for it to do here in the valley. ?

  4. I’m thankful Mark and I could spend a weekend with you too! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home and cute Buddy! The weather was perfect for enjoying the pool and going for walks.

I’m grateful that there are doctors to help Wren get better. (But I have to admit I’m kind of angry she has to go through this. I need to work on that one.)
And lastly I’m thankful for my 10 grandchildren, and that I’ll get to see all of them on Easter!

    1. We had so much fun with you guys, Cindy. Cancer definitely sucks. I am glad for the experts and the research to help us through, but our family has had enough, and cancer should just leave us alone now! Have fun with the grandchildren on Easter! The best part of the holidays!

  5. I really love how you take the time on these posts to show gratitude for things we often overlook, as well as the big things.

3 things – Today I’m grateful that Tim enjoys going to arts & craft fairs with me, isn’t annoyed when I stop at still another jewelry display, and that we have the financial security so I can but a couple of small things that caught me eye. I was good and only came home with one new pair or earrings! I am also grateful for a lovely, quite warm and very sunny day to enjoy the fair…. it’s been 3 years since the last big one like this and everybody was so happy to be there. And my third thing I’m grateful for is the blogger who makes me stop and think about everything I have to be grateful for!!

    1. Thank you Pat. You are too kind. I love your three things. Don’t you just love it when a day comes together perfectly like that…good people, good weather, beautiful art, and a little spending money in your pocket.
