How would you like to spend our time together?

Let me start with a warm welcome to anyone who is new to this blog. I hope you will introduce yourself in the comments. Many of us have been spending time together regularly for several years now, reading each other’s blogs and discussing points of interest in each of our lives. If you are a regular here, you’ve heard me ramble on about a variety of things…wellness, family, books, music, goals, vacations, and more.

Two parrots on a branch.

This week, I had a number of things on my mind and couldn’t settle on any one of them, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to ask you what you’d like to discuss. To get you started, here are the topics I was considering…but please don’t let this list confine you. If there is something else upon which you would like me to pontificate (I mean, anything you would like to discuss), please let me know.

On my mind

  • What exactly is BMI and is it a useful measurement?
  • Affirmation vs. praise
  • These are a few of my favorite things, aka jolts of joy
  • Are thoughts “interrupting” your meditation?

Your turn

  1. Do any of these topics hold interest for you?
  2. What else would you like to discuss in future blog posts?
  3. What else is on your mind at this moment?

  • Christmas carols: for mature audiences only?

I love Christmas music. From the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas night, that’s pretty much all I listen to. When it comes to discussing love, our hearts are front and center. Someone may tug at your heart strings, make your heart skip a beat, steal your heart, even break your heart. 1. I’d like to know more about the distinctions between affirmation vs. praise. And maybe as a corollary, the distinctions between goals vs. mantras. Of course anything you choose to pontificate on is cool by me. You pontificate well.

  2. Jolts of joy….I’m actually about to write about that if I have time after a discussion with a friend yesterday about why happiness shrinks in adults (I don’t think it does, but I think that ‘jolt’ of excited exhurbrance does….)
As an aside, your link in #WWWHimsy didn’t work for me. I had to come in from searching for your main page. Just letting you know in case your comments are down.

    1. What an interesting thought, Lydia. I think you could be on to something. Overall happiness (for me at least) has increased as I age, but it’s more of a contentment than excited exuberance. I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on the subject. And thanks for the heads up on the #WWWhimsy link. I’ll check that out.

  3. Hi Christie – jolts of joy always remind me of my post on “glimmers” because I think they’re the same basic idea – finding the little moments of joy and positivity in our day. I also like the idea of affirmation vs praise – I’m a ponderer on such things myself (nice vs kind etc). Have fun writing about all those thoughts. 🙂

    1. Yes, Leanne, I think we are both talking about the same thing when we say Jolts of Joy or glimmers. I was intrigued when I heard a wellness coach talking about the difference between affirmation and praise. I’m definitely going to dig into that more. Thanks for weighing in.

  4. Hi Christie, I also like the idea of jolts of joy or glimmers as they are a positive part of our lives. Great to have your post for #wwwhimsy this week, tahnsk for joining in.

    1. Thank you Debbie. It seems many people who have commented are interested in talking more about jolts of joy. Thanks for your feedback and for your participation in #WWWhimsy.

  5. Jolts of Joy sounds so fun and I am intrigued to hear your ideas on BMI since so many people I talk to are of the mindset that it’s a bit limited and outdated.

    1. Thanks for the input, Joanne. I too had heard about the limitation of BMI and then recently I learned a little more about how that measurement originated and it got me thinking more on that topic. Perhaps I will write a future post that incorporates that information.

  6. ‘Are your thoughts interrupting your meditation’ attracts me, Christie. I find it very difficult to focus when meditating because my mind wanders. A great idea for a post to get feedback on what people want to read. Thanks for sharing at #WWWhimsy and have a lovely week. If I was there with you I would enjoy going for a hike with you.
    Sue #TeamWWWhimsy

    1. Aw, Sue, I wish we were together so we could go on that hike. In the meantime, thank you for the input on blogging topics. I have something of a wandering mind myself. I have gotten better at refocusing on my breath when I catch myself though. Enjoy your week!

  7. I’m decision making challenged so I can’t choose. They all sound interesting to me! Whatever you write, I will read. 😁
