Intrepid possibilities and what’s been on my calendar in October

“Until you’re ready to look foolish, you’ll never have the possibility of being great.”

~Cher

As you may recall, I chose INTREPID and POSSIBILITIES as my 2025 Words of the Year. These two words together describe my intention for the year.

One way of putting that intention into action are my Possibilities Lists. With that in mind, I’d like to share an update on my Autumn Possibilities list.

Autumn Possibilities list

In no particular order, here are my autumn possibilities so far:

1. Get my annual mammogram. Mission accomplished. In addition, I made this video encouraging other women to have their mammograms.

2. Go on a leaf viewing drive or hike. Mission accomplished. Two of my sisters joined me on this adventure on the Desolation Canyon Trail.

3. Hike in Zions National Park. Not yet. I had this activity planned for the week of my birthday, but the government shutdown and Mother Nature conspired against me. One day I will get there!

4. Prepare yard for winter. In progress. My kind husband did the grub prevention treatment on our agave plants. When it gets a little cooler, I will trim back some of the other plants. For now, they are still blooming beautifully!

5. Complete Hell Week at Orangetheory Fitness. In progress…halfway done. As of today, I have completed 2 of the 4 required workouts.

Class 1: Havoc’s Hex

I forgot my heart rate monitor for this class, so I don’t have the Orangetheory stats, but here’s what my Apple Watch said about this workout. And, in case you are curious, the woman to my left won the costume contest for the day, and the one on my right is Coach Megan.

6. Visit friends in Mazatlan, Mexico. Not yet. This is scheduled for next month. We do have our plane reservations and dog sitters all set up.

7. Complete Christmas shopping. In progress…barely.

8. Hike to Lions Mouth Cave. Not yet.

9. Hike to Elephant Arch. Not yet.

10. Visit St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site. Not yet.

11. Take a golf lesson with Larry. Not yet.

12. Complete Halloween and autumn jigsaw puzzles, and start a Christmas one. In progress. I had meant to save the autumn puzzle for November, but I finished the Halloween one early and couldn’t wait to do the next one. It’s probably just as well. November looks to be a busy month, so I probably won’t have a lot of puzzing time. I will save the Christmas puzzle for December.

13. Enjoy some pumpkin treats. In progress. Here are the ones I remembered to photograph.

14. Make homemade soup. Mission accomplished, though I am certain there will be more soup made throughout the season. This one is a Hello Fresh recipe, Creamy Dreamy Potato Mushroom Soup with homemade croutons. It was both creamy and dreamy.

15. Try new local restaurants. (This is a new addition.) Mission accomplished! We tried two new (to us) restaurants in October: Rib & Chop House and Street Eats. Both were delicious. For some reason, I failed to take any photos of the food or the company, but I did get this shot of my amazing Midday Marg (a margarita with orange liqueur). In case you are wondering, it was not midday when I drank it. While I’m not opposed to the occasional day drinking, I usually reserve that for vacations!

That’s all for now. I’m sure I will be adding more possibilities as the season progresses.

Your turn

  1. What is one thing you did in October that made you happy or that you are particularly proud of?
  2. Do you have any fun plans for November?
  3. What else is on your mind? Anything at all; I just love to hear from you.

  1. Hi Christie – I loved your jigsaws and I wouldn’t have been able to resist doing them either. I look forward to seeing the Christmas one. Good on you for all the exercise and healthy eating you’re ticking off – it’s certainly paying off for you. Your Autumn scenery is gorgeous too.

  2. Look at you go and enjoying your life to the full Christie. Loved the colours in your post too. Autumnal is wonderful. We are on the cusp of Spring into Summer…and it’s a cool wet day here but we know the heat will return.
    Take care,
    Denyse x

  3. I am so impressed by the hard work you’re putting in on yourself, Christie! Good for you! I need some of that motivation. Your photos are just spectacular. I went outside and smelled that good old “walk in the autumn woods” smell. It took me right back to my childhood when we’d play in the woods for hours.

I have made three really good friends as a result of being a docent. We have formed a group called, “Besties!” Original, right? But, we have found we have so much in common, talk like we’ve known each other for years, and laugh. It’s been so life affirming for me. In November, I have several tours to give which means I need to finish writing one because that exhibit is closing in January!

Thanks for all the motivation, and have a wonderful week!

    1. Hello Marsha. I love those autumn walk-in-the-woods smells, as you called them. That’s so great that you have made new friends through your docent work, and I for one, like calling the group Besties. Good luck with your next tours. I’m sure all your preparation will pay off. Enjoy your week as well!

  4. Hi Christie, you’re certainly ticking things off! The one that has me intrigued is preparing the garden for winter! That is not something we have to do here and I’m interested to know what exactly do you need to do? The one thing in October that I’ve done that I’m proud of is attending the family reunion as per my post this week. Mum & Dad would be so proud that we went and represented our family. Hope you’re having a wonderful week and thank you for linking up with us at #WWWhimsy xo

    1. We don’t have to do a lot with the yard, Min, but we do turn off the drip watering system and blow out the lines…just in case. Here is Southern Utah, we don’t get many hard freezes, but it can happen. Then I trim back some of the flowering plants. I understand that helps them grow even better come spring. I’m headed over to your blog shortly to read all about your family reunion. It’s good when we can carry on traditions even after our parents are gone. I know I feel closer to them when I do.

  5. Hi Christie, I love your bright tights you’re wearing in your shots! My October was mainly spent in Canada and then a few days in Honolulu on our way back from an amazing 10 week holiday, so I’m just happy we made it through with virtually no illness, or any real dramas! I also got to see some fabulous blogging friends 🙂
I can’t believe the year is almost over! Your lists are great and I’m sure you’ll manage to do most of your items in your own time.

    1. Thanks Debbie. I love my leggings and workout shorts! I get them from a company called Constantly Varied Gear (CVG). I just did a YouTube review on them, if you are interested. https://youtu.be/-8HMtMnSxnQ I understand they ship internationally.

Your trip sounds fabulous, and that’s great that there was no real travel drama. Success.

        1. Thank you, Debbie. I do love the brand. Besides great clothes, they provide a supportive fitness community with some fun challenges, and their customer service is excellent. I may do a blogpost review in the future, where I can go into a little more detail.

  6. You’ve gotten so many of them done already! That’s wonderful. Your puzzles are really cute. We had a wonderful October filled with fun and checking things off our to do list. November is looking pretty fun too. I can’t wait to see Hadestown; that is one production we’ve been trying to catch for years. My younger two boys are huge mythology fans so we spent years studying both Greek and Roman myths.

  7. October has been good to you! I loved the quote by Cher, and all the pictures. You’re ahead of me-I’m about halfway done with the Fall puzzle. And your exercise gear is so cute!! 🧙‍♀️ ☠️ 🔥

    1. October has been lovely, Cindy. I hope you are enjoying that puzzle as much as I did. It’s funny that we both said it was for November, but jumped right in anyway. You know how I love my CVGs! In fact, my Halloween shorts and leggings were such a big hit at the gym, and I got so many questions about them, I decided to do a YouTube review of them. https://youtu.be/-8HMtMnSxnQ

    1. Those were some creative workout names, weren’t they, Joanne? I do enjoy savory pumpkin dishes, but as you can see, sweet pumpkin is a big thing around here too. Have you ever tried pumpkin bread? It’s pretty delicious.

  8. I have looked at what I did in October – the month seemed to simply fly by. I’m hoping to do a post on my own blog about it. I didn’t do a monthly possibilities list for it, although I had been doing them lately. I have started one for November as I don’t want another month to simply fly by.
