Why I’m obsessed with Constantly Varied Gear (CVG) leggings: a product review

I’ve always enjoyed a quality pair of leggings for working out or lounging around the house. However, since retirement…and the discovery of the amazing Constantly Varied Gear (CVG) leggings…I have vastly expanded my definition of legging-appropriate occasions.

In fact, as soon as I discover a way to style them for weddings and funerals, I think I can clear my closet of all other forms of clothing.

Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration, but my CVG collection definitely contains my most comfortable and fun clothing items. So I thought it was time I spread the joy by sharing an honest, in-depth review of Constantly Varied Gear leggings.

Important note

I received some free items from Constantly Varied Gear in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. All opinions are entirely my own, and in fact, I published the video review found at the bottom of this post prior to being offered any free product.

I’d also like to note that I obviously did not use a model for these photos, so you can see how CVG shorts and leggings look on an average middle-aged…3/4 aged?…woman. If it helps give perspective, I am 5’7″ and 144 pounds.

Comfort

CVG leggings are incredibly soft and smooth, and the amount of compression is just right. They are tight enough to hold things in and smooth things out, but not so tight that I feel like I’m being squeezed. They stay in place, and there is no uncomfortable rubbing of seams.

As for size, CVG is all-inclusive. They run from XX-Small to XXX-Large. They have a size finder on their website, which is based on input from thousands of users. If you are in between sizes, CVG recommends sizing down. I’ve been wearing Large, but plan to try Medium with my next purchase.

Leggings come in capri or full length, and shorts come in 2.5”, 5”, and 7” inseams. So whatever your size, you are sure to find a fit that is perfect for you.

Functionality

CVG describes their leggings as “squat proof,” meaning no matter how far you stretch them, they will not become see-through, so you can do your squats, yoga poses…and anything else you choose…with confidence that you are not showing off more than you want to. I have found this to be true.

The fabric is also moisture-wicking and breathable and prevents visible sweat marks. I often go from the gym to a coffee shop or the grocery store, and I never worry about embarrassing sweat stains.

In addition, all CVG leggings and shorts have deep pockets on each side…a must have for me, if I want to wear leggings outside the gym…and I do. I can carry a credit card, my keys, or my phone without worrying that I’ll lose them.

One other thing I should mention…I still have my first pair that I received four years ago, and they look and feel like new. I don’t follow any special care instructions. I simply throw them, with my other clothing, in a cold wash and low dry.

Style

One of the things that originally drew me to CVG was the fun assortment of designs. If you are feeling basic, they do have black and other solid colors, but where CVG shines is in their varied bright-colored patterns, including designs for every holiday. Nearly every time I wear my CVGs, I get a compliment or a question about where I got my adorable leggings. In fact, that is what inspired me to spread the word.

Here are just a few of my favorites:

Pricing

So what about pricing? The standard price for leggings is $59.99, and shorts are $46.99, which is a competitive price for such high quality. However, if that’s more than you want to spend, you can always find discounted patterns or “Random” leggings or shorts, where CVG surprises you with a pattern of their choosing.

Other products

CVG is famous for its leggings, matching bras, and shorts, but you can also find dresses, hoodies, tops, and swimwear on their website.

  1. I had never heard of this brand before but I do like those nice deep pockets! I like leggings and do wear them on occasion… I mean I wear them 3 days a week to go to the gym but I only wear them occasionally all day or “just because.”

  2. You look fantastic Christie! I love them all, but my favorites are the butterfly and heart ones. I have one pair of capris (from you!) and they are by far my cutest ones. I agree they are made really well. My only complaint is I have to “hike them up” often. Do you think that means I need to size down?

    1. Thank you, Cindy. I love the butterfly and heart designs too. I wore the heart leggings today. As for your leggings slipping down, I would guess they are one size too big. Whoever gave them to you should have known better. 😉 If you decide to buy more, I would size down.

  3. Hi Christie – what a fabulous collaboration – you are the perfect person to show off all those gorgeous patterns and colours – and you looked great in that dress at the end too. I think the butterflies are my favourite out of your selection. BTW you could always just style plain black leggings for a funeral (just kidding!) x

    1. Yes, Marsha. Fun prints add that little extra energy you need for a good work out. I love the tie dye too. When I first saw them I wondered if they were too bright for me, but no, they are just right!

  4. Hi Christie, I’ve never heard of the brand before and not sure if they’re here in Australia but they sure do have some fun designs! The no see thru guarantee and squat proof and the pockets are a big tick! Thank you for sharing with us at #WWWhimsy xo

  5. What a fun look you have going Christie!! Loved the looks of all of the leggings and can see why it would be hard to wear anthing else now!
