Ask and you shall receive: photos of my new hearing aids

Last week, I introduced you to my fancy new Signia hearing aids. Some of you noticed that I failed to include any real discussion of how they look and asked if I would be willing to share some photos of the product and of me wearing them.

First, thank you for pointing out that oversight. I didn’t exclude discussion of appearance intentionally. It’s just that how the hearing aids look wasn’t a big factor in my decision making process. I’m not saying I’m above a little vanity…it’s more that my ears are entirely hidden by my hair most of the time.

That said, I do occasionally wear my hair pulled back, especially when I am working out, so there is a real possibility that people will see my hearing aids.

As you can see, from the front, the hearing aids are nearly invisible. Someone would have to be really in my face to notice I was wearing them from the front.

From the side, they are slightly more visible, but you’d still have to be looking directly at my ear to notice. I was more hesitant about publicly sharing this closeup of my wrinkles and other various imperfections than my hearing aids!

And finally, from the back…you can see the hearing aids best from this view. They are not particularly attention grabbing, but if you didn’t want anyone to know you wore hearing aids, this would be the position that gives you away.

And just in case you are wondering, here’s what my hearing aids look like outside my ears. I’ve included the reading glasses for size perspective.

Your turn

I appreciated the in-depth discussion about hearing aids on last week’s blog. If you have any other questions or comments, I’d love to hear them. On another note…

  1. Does anyone else cringe a little when sharing close-up unfiltered photos of yourself, or is it just me?
  2. How long have you had your current hairstyle? Mine has looked more or less the same for a decade…maybe longer!
  3. What else is on your mind? Anything at all; I just love hearing from you.

  1. Does anyone else cringe a little when sharing close-up unfiltered photos of yourself, or is it just me? I cringe, then don’t share. You have my admiration for being this brave.
How long have you had your current hairstyle? I started growing out my cute little bob style during the pandemic. Now I have a ponytail for maybe 2 year? I like the ease of it but admit I’m tired of it. Still I get compliments so who knows what I’ll do next.

    1. I can relate, Ally. I usually don’t use photos of myself in my posts, but I couldn’t figure out any way to fulfill this request. I’m thinking I could have used better lighting though. I’ve kept my hairstyle for the ease of it as well. Sometimes I think I will try something new, and then I don’t. I’d say if you have a style that is easy and garners compliments, stick with it!

  2. Hi Christie – thanks for the pics – they really are very unobtrusive and even the back piece is a lot smaller than the “good old days”. Now I just have to get past how expensive they are before I think about heading down that path.

As far as close up pictures go, I rarely put photos of myself online – and they’re always from a distance. I did some close ups of my ear when I was doing posts on my daith piercing a few years ago and the wrinkles near my ear were more confronting than the piercing! xx

    1. The expense of hearing aids is a big obstacle, Leanne. While I’m grateful for an insurance benefit for mine, I am on a high-deductible plan, so I still had to pay out-of-pocket. The good news is I’m at the front end of my plan year, so I will have met my deductible early on.

I typically don’t use close-ups of myself either. I just couldn’t figure a way to really show the hearing aids without using them in this case. Still, I’m thinking I could have at least used a ring light or something!

  3. Hi Christie, Thank you for the photos. The hearing aids are really not noticeable until I read your text description and look more closely. I’ve had my current low-maintenance hairstyle for at least a decade. Happy Thanksgiving week to you! #WWWhimsy

  4. Hi Christie, those a really sleek and discreet hearing aids. They look like a perfect choice to me. They would be hidden under my hair most of the time too – apart from if I’ve got my hair up working out or hair up because it’s so hot! But I wouldn’t care if anyone saw them anyway – they look barely noticeable. In fact, more discreet than wearing airpods!! Thanks for linking up with #WWWhimsy Hope you enjoy the rest of your week! xo

    1. I am pleased with the hearing aids, Min. Appearance was not a big concern for me either. I just wanted the most comfortable, effective hearing aids I could get. I think I’ve done that. Thanks again for hosting the #WWWhimsy link-up, especially when you have so much else on your plate. I hope you are having a good week!

  5. Thanks for sharing Christie. I don’t think the hearing aides are noticeable at all. (And neither are any wrinkles!) Many times I’ve taken a selfie, then looked at it and went “nope”, delete. I’ve changed my hair color and length a lot in my life, but it’s probably been the same for about 5 years now.

    1. You’re too kind, Cindy. Like you, I don’t take a lot of selfies and I keep only a small percentage of those. Once when Piper was younger, we took a selfie together, and I didn’t like that one. She said, “Yeah, you look old in that picture.” It was harsh but true. I must have reacted funny, because she said, “I only say that because you look young in real life.” Situation saved.

  6. my hearing aids look pretty much the same as yours. I do have trouble wearing them – i.e. keeping them behind my ears. Hubby reckons it’s because I have small ears 🙂 Who knows? It is difficult wearing them with my specs as well, as there doesn’t seem to be enough room behind my ears for both!

      1. I’ve actually been without my specs for a couple of months as i am waiting for my second eye op. So it will be interesting to see how i manage afterwards. (eye op. on thursday. Yay!!)

  7. Wow. They are amazing. I am so glad they are making a difference for you. Sharing this helps others like me understand the situation better too!

  8. It seems I missed your post last week Christie, so I didn’t realise that you now have hearing aids. It’s amazing how tiny they are these days. I’m sure most people wouldn’t even notice them. But hey, if they help with your hearing who cares.

  9. Christie,
From the front and sides, they’re virtually invisible! Thanks for sharing this with us! I ‘ve always had long hair, but I keep it up most of the time. That’s how I’ve worn it for at least ten years. Also, one of my least favorite things is getting my picture taken. 📸 Mona

    1. Hello Mona. I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t love having their picture taken or who has kept the same low-maintenance hairstyle for years. It seems I’m in good company.

  10. Hi Christie, these hearing aids are almost hidden and if I didn’t know they were there I wouldn’t have noticed them. Thanks for being honest and sharing these great aids. I’m happy not to share closeup shots :). My hair is growing longer and I’m liking the change!
