Happy Equinox! Welcoming the change of seasons

Today (March 19) is the March Equinox, the date on which the sun is directly over the Equator, making the day and night of equal length. In the Northern Hemisphere, the March Equinox marks the first day of spring; in the Southern Hemisphere, the first day of autumn.

So, for my friends in the Northern Hemisphere…happy spring! We made it! We survived the long, dark winter. It is officially spring. I know there will be lingering snow in some areas, but flowers are blooming, birds are singing, and the average temperature is ticking up. All good things in my book.

The beautiful spring came; and when nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also. Harriet Ann Jacobs.

And, for my friends in the Southern Hemisphere…happy autumn! You survived what I understand has been a long, hot summer.

Of all the seasons, autumn offers the most to man and requires the least of him. Hal Borland.

Celebrating the change of season

Whichever season you are welcoming, I hope you are feeling that renewed energy and enthusiasm that often accompanies the beginning of a new season.

  4. Set new intentions or renew existing ones.

  1. Happy Spring to you! 💐

Do you have any plans to celebrate the new season? My plans for Spring are to walk outside more often and to start making my dream of a small butterfly garden into reality. I’ve done the research, I’ve looked at the books, I’m ready [once the garden nurseries open] to see what I can make happen.

What is the weather like where you are today? We are just today beginning to see Spring colors outside, like blue and yellow and green– lots of green. Cool temps but ever so lovely.

    1. Oohh, Ally, I am intrigued by the butterfly garden. I’m going to do a little research myself. I hope you will share some photos of yours as it comes along. I do love the colors of spring. Enjoy!

  2. Happy Spring! 🌷 Ironically, after a milder than usual winter, we are experiencing snow flurries today in the Toronto area. 😆 We know the good weather is coming, though!

    1. Happy spring to you too, Debbie! The good news about those spring flurries is they typically don’t stick around too long, and as you said, you know the warmer weather is coming.

  3. Hi Christie – happy Spring! And yes Autumn is finally arriving down here in Western Australia. I actually put on a little cardigan last night because the evening was cool – YAY! It’s been soooo hot and the change is a most welcome one. It makes my morning walks a lot more pleasant when I don’t return home in a sweaty mess. 🙂

  4. I love spring and our flowers are staring to bloom! As is typical in Utah today was gorgeous, sunny and warm-but next week snow is predicted again. Luckily we are starting to have more warm days, and less cold.

    1. Happy spring Cindy! I love those early flowers and the joy they inspire. It’s such a relief as the warm days begin to outnumber the cold days, and nature starts to take on more color. Yea for spring! Wouldn’t you know the snow is forecast for the week we are in town, but I can’t complain too much. And at least I’ll get to see my family. XO

  5. I like the ways in which you get to herald the first day of Spring. In the southern hemisphere, and I only know Australia specifically, we are ‘seasons by the calendar’ So March 1 means Autumn. Forget that it was still a heatwave!!

Looking forward to your stories showcasing the season of growth and warmth.

  6. Happy first day of spring Christie. Isn’t spring wonderful, especially the first days after the cold of winter. I don’t like the winter and am usually a bit fed up by the end. Spring gives me back my hope and energy. We are a couple of weeks into autumn. Today is the first cool day we’ve had and it looks like the long hot summer days could be gone.

  7. I love spring too Christie and hope it’s a lovely time of year for you after your winter. We are having lovely days, a bit cooler buts still very pleasant temps and slowly the garden is moving into autumnal mode. #wwwhimsy

  8. Hi Christie – happy first day of spring to you and autumn for us! I am so happy to see the end of summer here in Brisbane but in saying that … it’s still hot and humid so we’re not quite there yet! My favourite times of years are all the seasons except summer. Summer here is too hot for me. The other seasons are mild and lovely. I know winter in your part of the world would be very different to our winter here though. Thanks for linking up with #WWWhimsy – enjoy your spring days ahead! xo

    1. Hello Min and welcome back to hosting #WWWhimsy. I hope all is well (or at least calming down a bit) for you and your family. Because of our cold winters, winter is my least favorite season. I’m happy to be leaving it behind for a bit and knowing that my three preferred seasons stretch out ahead of me. Happy autumn to you. I hope things start cooling down for you soon.

  9. Finally we are seeing days with blue skies and fluffy clouds, rather than constant greyness and heavy rain. There are swathes of daffodils along the roads, and all manner of spring bulbs popping up through the undergrowth in parks and woods. It is joyous. Having had my other cataract removed, I am looking forward to getting out & about with my camera once more. For the moment though, I’ve been reminded I have to take it easy, and not carry anything heavier than a mug of tea. It’s frustrating, but it’s only for a week or two, so I’m trying to be a grown-up and not complain! 😉

PS: gorgeous parrot tulips in the first image <3

    1. Hello Debs! Don’t you just love when the sun comes out after a long gray spell and the early spring flowers add color to everything? Yeah for spring! Wishing you a speedy recovery, so you can get out and about with your camera soon. I look forward to seeing your photos.

  10. Happy Spring, Christie! I’m sure you will enjoy the warmer weather and the blooms. We are slowly feeling Autumn creep in and after a very hot and humid Summer we are looking forward to it. There is always something to be grateful for in each Season although my favourites are Autumn and Spring. Have a lovely week. #WWWhimsy

    1. Thank you, Sue, and happy autumn to you! I agree wholeheartedly that each season brings its joys, but winter is my least favorite overall, so it makes spring all the more delightful! I hope you have a lovely week as well.
