Intrepid possibilities and what’s been on my calendar in April
“I am neither an optimist nor pessimist, but a possibilist.”
~Max Lerner

As you may recall, I chose INTREPID and POSSIBILITIES as my 2025 Words of the Year. These two words together describe my intention for the year.
One way of putting that intention into action…and sharing what’s been on my calendar (#WBOYC)…is my Spring Possibilities List. With that in mind, I’d like to share a quick update on what’s happening with my that.
Spring Possibilities list
1. Go to Los Angeles and attend a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show and visit a friend in San Juan Capistrano.
Mission accomplished! And we had a wonderful time. The Jimmy Kimmel Live! staff could not have been more accommodating, our hotel was perfectly located, and I enjoyed a delicious meal and cocktail. Who could ask for more?

On to the second phase of our trip, San Juan Capistrano and the surrounding area. What a beautiful little beach town…and, of course, it was delightful spending time with our lovely host and friend.

2. Continue with monthly massages and twice monthly stretches. In progress. No photos, but I enjoyed a massage and two stretches in March. I’ve had one stretch so far in April and another is on the calendar, as well as a massage.
3. Donate blood. This one was accomplished last month.
4. Complete the mindbodygreen Functional Nutrition course. In progress. I have completed 15 of 30 modules…halfway there! Right now, I am listening to “Autoimmune Health: Eating to Support Your Immune System with Mark Hyman M.D.”
5. Take a golf lesson with my husband. Not yet started.
6. Plant new lavender. Not yet started.
7. Pull out a dead Century plant and treat others for grub prevention. Not yet started, but this is a must-do and next on the list.
8. Enjoy a spring-break visit from one of our daughters and her family.
Mission accomplished! We had so much fun, I really can’t believe I only took two photos: this one of my youngest daughter as we walked for CVG Miles in March (see below)…

…and one of my youngest granddaughter. Actually, she took this selfie demonstrating that she got a chocolate-covered strawberry from Café Zupas that was almost as big as her head!

9. Complete the CVG Miles in March. My goal is to walk 100 miles during March.
Mission accomplished! I just squeaked past my goal with 102 miles walked.

10. Visit one of the local butcher shops in the area. Mission accomplished…sort of. We went to the Chef’s Store, which sells cuts of meat to restaurants and individuals. Now, I’d like to go to an actual local butcher shop.
11. Hike the Lion’s Mouth Cave Trail near Cedar City, Utah. Not yet started.
12. Visit the Gypsy Emporium Antique Mall in Hurricane, Utah. Mission accomplished! We visited the Gypsy Emporium while our granddaughter was staying with us. We all enjoyed looking at items from days gone by and the memories they inspired. At times, I felt like I was at Grandma’s house. Once again, I failed to take a single photo.
13. Hike the Elephant Arch trail. Not yet started.
14. Visit the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site. Not yet started.
15. Finalize plans for summer girls’ trip. In progress. I have begun looking online at hikes in Bryce Canyon, as well as restaurants and other possible activities in the area. I’ll get serious about this one in May.
16. Start scanning physical photos for digital storage. This was a carryover from my Winter Possibilities List, and I had decided not to add it to my spring list, as I’d lost my motivation…but then I got motivated again, and I am pleased to announce that I have started. I downloaded the Photomyne app and scanned my first couple of photos as a test. So far, so good.
By my count, I have completed five spring possibilities and started four more. Not bad for the first month of the season!
Your turn
- What is one thing you did in April which you are proud of or especially enjoyed?
- What are your plans for May?
- What else is on your mind? Anything at all; I just love to hear from you.

Hi Christie – you certainly ticked a lot of boxes and your trip away and Jimmy Kimmel experience sound wonderful. I laughed when you said you only had two photos from your family visit. We just had all our family here for a week and I think I took maybe six photos in total – I was too busy enjoying being with them to bother pulling out my phone….it sounds like you were the same. 🙂
I’m glad to hear you had such a good visit with your family, Leanne. I love having photo memories, but it’s also nice to be so in the moment that you don’t want to interrupt it with photos…or you don’t even think about taking them.
You’ve a wonderful list of April activities. It sounds like it was fun.
What is one thing you did in April which you are proud of or especially enjoyed? We got started on planting annuals in pots that sit around outside on the deck or out front. Theoretically you’re not supposed to start annuals until Mother’s Day but the temps have been mild so we went ahead. I feel like a wild child throwing gardening caution to the wind. Living big here. 😁
It truly has been a delightful month, Ally. Good on you for throwing caution to the wind and getting those plants started. I’m all in for the warmer weather too. Hopefully, Mother Nature will take our cue.
You’re doing really well Christie! I love the opening quote about being a possibilist, it’s so true. Your photos are all great and it looks like you’ve had a fab start to the season.
Go you!
Debbie #Teamwwwhimsy
Thanks, Debbie. That quote struck a chord with me too. We have had a lovely start to spring for sure. I hope your autumn is going just as well.
Hi Christie, what a great list! How exciting to have been to the Jimmy Kimmel show! Love all your photos. My thing that I did in April that I’m proud of and pleased about is the subject of my post today – playing tourist in my own city. It was such a fun day! As always, thanks so much for linking up with #WWWhimsy I look forward to watching more of your list get ticked off! xo
We did have a fun time at the Jimmy Kimmel Live! taping. Thank you. Playing tourist in your own city is fabulous and I can’t wait to read your post. I will be stopping by soon.
Congratulations on all your accomplishments! I’ve only been to California three times and loved it each time. I would love to go back, but my husband says his long distance traveling days are over. But, I do have my memories. I’m contemplating the possibility (see what I did there) of a solo road trip. Nothing long or involved, but I’d like to give it a try as I’ve never done anything like that before. BTW…your granddaughter is gorgeous!

Thank you, Marsha. I have family in California, so while we don’t go often, we have spent some time there. I actually lived there briefly as a young child. I understand your husband not wanting to travel distances. My husband is getting that way too…at least regarding international travel. I’m still looking for a few more adventures. I’m going to have to go solo or find some travel buddies.
Hi Christie I love the idea of a possibilites list. Well done on ticking off so many things. You walked over 100 miles. That’s amazing. Well done again. It looks like April was very kind to you.
Thanks Jennifer. I’m loving the gentle nature of a possibilities list. And, yes, April was indeed kind to me. I am deeply grateful for that. Here’s to more of the same in May!
Wow, you’ve had a marvellous month! While I’d heard of Jimmy Kimmel, I didn’t know him until recently. Himself isn’t able to work at the moment so we’ve been watching a lot on YouTube about US politics, and Mr Kimmel does a very fine roast indeed!
We’ve enjoyed venturing out & about again – slowly, slowly – as Himself’s eye troubles settle back down. I’m keeping everything crossed for continuing recovery and for enjoying outdoor stuff.
I’m sorry to say that the US political system is providing plenty of fodder for YouTube lately. Jimmy Kimmel definitely isn’t shy about making his feelings known, is he?
Wishing you and Himself good health and plenty of time in nature!
I’m doing OK on my April list….except for the house recovery items. My WOTY is Patience, and the house recovery speed (lack there-of) is certainly testing that WOTY!
I can only imagine how the house recovery is trying your patience, Pat. The fact that you are getting other things done is amazing.
I’m so glad you enjoyed your California trip! And if you need an international travel buddy… 🙋♀️
My favorite thing in April was an Easter egg hunt and dinner with all of my kids and most of my grandkids. It was perfect weather and we were able to spend the day outside. Im looking forward to the rest of spring and summer and spending more time with my sisters. 💜
Thanks Cindy…and I choose you as my travel buddy! Your Easter sounded like so much fun. I loved looking at the photos. Yay for spring and summer!
Those prawns, that strawberry, those miles, an antique shop… plenty to smile about in this post. I’ve taken to buying nearly all my meat from the butchers lately rather than the supermarket. The quality seems better and the service is substantially different. Plus, they know me now and will ask what I’m cooking with whatever I buy.
Yes, Joanne, I’ve been smiling a lot this month! The things you listed about going to a local butcher’s shop are all the reasons I want to check it out, and of course supporting local businesses.
Christie,
Wow!! Kudos to you attending a taping for the Jimmy Kimmel show…You are doing great on your Possibilities as you have some really great ones… Thanks so much for stopping by!! I hope you are enjoying your weekend!!
Hugs,
Deb

Thanks Debbie. Jimmy Kimmel was a lot of fun…as was the month of April in general. Hugs to you too!
HI Christie what a wonderful post with lots of ticks, fun and love. I like the idea of a possibilities list and may try to sort one for myself. Your nutrition course also sounds very interesting. You look like you had a wonderful time in LA ticking off more boxes. Thanks for sharing with us at #WBOYC? and I hope you have a wonderful May. Sue L xx
Thanks Sue. The mindset of a Possibilities List as opposed to a “to-do” list has worked wonders for me. We did have fun in LA. Thanks as always for hosting #WBOYC?. Here’s to a marvelous May!
Wow, so impressed with your progress on your spring possibilities list. Glad you got the Kimmel show in and time vacationing in California. Your photos are lovely. Did you get the grub treatment done eventually. Here they say to treat in May and in September. We have avoided having many grubs with regularly treatment, thank goodness. Love the flowers. One of the families we have done Rover.com visits for has some beautiful, vibrant zinnias growing. I am going to try them next year.
Hello Leslie. Yes, we did get the grub treatment on. We’ve been doing it in the spring and the fall for a year and a half now. We’ve lost two Century plants to grubs since we moved in 5 years ago, but I think the preventive treatment is working. Luckily, both of the lost plants had pups that survived and are continuing to grow even without the mother plant.
