Intrepid possibilities and what’s been on my calendar in January

If I were to wish for anything, I should not wish for wealth and power, but for the passionate sense of the potential, for the eye which, ever young and ardent, sees the possible. Pleasure disappoints, possibility never. And what wine is so sparkling, what so fragrant, what so intoxicating, as possibility!”

As you may recall, I chose INTREPID as my 2025 Word of the Year…and I’m sticking with that; however, as I’ve started to work through what being INTREPID means to me, I’ve discovered another word that I’d like to add: POSSIBILITIES.

Expanding my WOTY also enables me to tie in my Possibilities List…wrapping everything together in a neat little package. Here’s where I am to date with that list…which by the way ties in nicely with the #WBOYC link-up. Don’t you just love the synchronicity?

Winter Possibilities List

  1. Complete the Orangetheory Fitness Transformation Challenge.
Orangetheory Fitness workout tracker.

I am well on my way. So far I have met my goal to attend at least three Orangetheory sessions a week, with at least one of those being a strength class, as well as my goal to consume at least 130 grams of protein per day for five days out of every week. As an added bonus, I’ve one two prizes so far: 1) a pre-workout supplement and shaker bottle and 2) a Stretch Lab session.

  1. Complete the CVG Movement Challenge.
CVG Movement Calendar 2025.

I am on target to complete this one-month challenge as well. So far, I haven’t missed a day.

  1. Go to Los Angeles and attend a taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

We postponed this event due to the Los Angeles fires. We are looking at April now, so this will be a Spring Possibility.

  1. Sign up at least one new coaching client.

I’m close on this one. I have one new commitment, just waiting for a signed agreement, and one other who has expressed interest.

  1. Get a monthly massage.

January’s massage complete; it was heavenly. February’s has been booked.

  1. Plan an activity centered around each of my senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch).

The Senses Possibility Lists have been created, and I have completed one of the sight activities, three hearing activities, two smell activities, three taste activities, and five touch activities. I did not take photos of each experience, but here are a couple examples:

Times Square jigsaw puzzle.
Sight activity: work on a jigsaw puzzle
Happy Anniversary caramelized banana cream pie.
Taste activity: have a caramelized banana cream pie at Ruth’s Chris Steak House
  1. Complete the BlogAid SEO course.

In progress. I watched the first video.

  1. Donate blood.

Completed.

  1. Complete the mindbodygreen Functional Nutrition course.

In progress. I have completed seven of 33 modules. I am learning quite a lot, some of which I will share in future blog posts.

  1. Take a golf lesson with my husband.

Not yet started. The weather has been unseasonably cold, so we are waiting for it to warm up a little.

  1. Explore my community by visiting someplace or attending an event that is new to me.

I did a little research and have chosen a local historical museum I want to visit in the very near future.

Additional activities on my calendar

My husband and I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary with our traditional Ruth’s Chris dinner. Delicious! And the company wasn’t too bad either.

I had the  pleasure of enjoying lunch at Jinya Ramen Bar with my daughter (not pictured) and grandchild. Also delicious and delightful company.

And lunch with another daughter (not pictured), grandson, and his partner at Yoshi’s Japanese Grill.

Also, I received some items I had ordered from said girlfriend’s Etsy page, and they are beautiful and so well-made. Check out her Etsy store, Madssewing, to see what else she makes. (I’m not being compensated for this plug. I just love what she’s doing and want to support a young entrepreneur.)

Hand-sewn tote bag and burp rags.

I also had the chance to snuggle with my great granddaughter and visit with the family, but to respect their privacy, I’m not posting any photos. Take my word for it, she is beautiful and I was in heaven.

  1. What a joyful and accomplished January you had Christie. The fires in LA have been dreadful haven’t they? Congratulation on your anniversary and also your being close to your first coaching client which is exciting. Have a fabulous February and thanks for sharing with us at #WBOYC? Sue L x

    1. Yes, Sue, the LA fires have been devastating for so many. I have family in the general area, but luckily none had to evacuate. Thank you for the encouragement on my goals and for hosting #WBOYC?. Here’s to a fabulous February!

  2. That’s been a fabulous month Christie and go you ticking off those goals. Congrats on being a great-grandmother, that’s amazing! Congrats on your wedding anniversary, January is the month for them it seems 🙂 Great to have you join us for WBOYC, see you next month if not before! 🙂

  3. That movement calendar looks fantastic. I love that there are song challenges included! Do you get specific exercises for, say the glute challenge, or do you choose your own? Many of the workout challenges seem quite hard!
Good work with your gym sessions and protein intake!

    1. The Movement Challenge was a lot of fun, Susanne. For the song challenges, we were given a specific song and a series of moves to do during the song. The idea was to see how far you could get during that one song. Each day, CVG posted a video and the details of the day’s challenge. Some were definitely more difficult than others, but they were all doable, especially since they provided suggested variations for most moves. Each week they did a random drawing for free leggings among the participants. I didn’t win any prizes this time, but I did get stronger…which is the real prize!

  4. Hi, Christie – Success! I wasn’t able to get into this post via InLinkz but I did get in through your Gravatar Profile. <3 You have had a very full January with many great accomplishments. How fun to be going to see Jimmy Kimmel Live. I would love that! <3

    1. Thanks for persisting, Donna. January was a full, fun month for me. We are definitely looking forward to our LA trip this spring. My nephew works on the Jimmy Kimmel show, so that makes it extra special.

  5. Congrats on meeting so many of your goals! I have been neglecting mine for a bit, but I’ve got a good excuse! I started training to be a docent at the art museum in Indianapolis. I didn’t realize how much outside time it would take! But, I’m loving learning something new! I would never believe you are a great-grandmother! How wonderful!

  6. I was thinking of how delightful it is to snuggle and hold a baby just yesterday. My babiest grand is now a rowdy 3 years old and not interested much in snuggling. Lucky you to get to hold that little one.
Glad for your family lunch dates. I would like to see more of my daughter who lives in EP but they are so busy. And when they aren’t busy, they are sick!! We seem to catch up through text messages.
Incorporating possibilities into your WOTY while create all kinds of … possibilities!! Enjoyed your post about enhancing your senses. So many very easy-to-do things to bring joy.

    1. Babies are the best, Leslie. Our youngest grandchild is 15 and just got her learner’s permit, so yeah, it’s been a while since we’ve had a baby in the family. Getting with the grown children is always a bit of a scheduling trick. I do find now that we are only in town once a month, they are a little more accommodating when we are there. We rely a lot on texting in between too.

  7. What a great list of things you did last month. I’m not sure you understand what it means to be retired! 😉

What was something you enjoyed in January? I enjoyed the profound simplicity and stillness that comes from being snowed in for a day or two. Time slows down and introspection ramps up. Perfect for an introvert like me.

What was something you accomplished in January? I managed to jump back into personal blogging. It’s been a bumpy ride, I’ve gotten out of the habit of organizing my potential blog post thoughts, but I persevered.

    1. Ha, Ally, for me the joy of being retired is that I can choose what I want to do and when I want to do it…for the most part anyway. It was a busy month, but truly full of things I enjoyed. That said, once we returned to our Southern Utah home, I was only too happy to sequester myself for a couple of days of rest and relaxation.

I’m not a huge fan of the snow, but I must say those days when it really comes down and you have nowhere to be are kind of magical.

Congratulations on getting back to blogging. I for one missed you!
