Intrepid possibilities: spring wrap-up and summer reveal
“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, in the expert’s mind there are few.”
~ Shunryu Suzuki

As you may recall, I chose INTREPID and POSSIBILITIES as my 2025 Words of the Year. These two words together describe my intention for the year.
One way of putting that intention into action are my Possibilities Lists. With that in mind, I’d like to offer a quick final recap on my Spring Possibilities, followed by the unveiling of my Summer Possibilities list.
Spring Possibilities wrap-up
1. Go to Los Angeles and attend a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show and visit a friend in San Juan Capistrano. Mission accomplished in April. If you missed it, I’ve posted some pictures here.
2. Continue with monthly massages and twice monthly stretches. Mission accomplished.
3. Donate blood. This one was accomplished in March and again in May.
4. Complete the mindbodygreen Functional Nutrition course. In progress. There’s a lot to this course, and it is taking longer than anticipated, but I keep listening one lesson at a time. I am halfway through module 15 (of 28 total). Right now, I am listening to “A Deeper Dive Into Autoimmune Disease withWill Cole, D.C., IFMCP”
5. Take a golf lesson with my husband. Not yet started. Considering how warm it’s getting here. There is a real possibility that I will push this one to fall.
6. Plant new lavender. Mission accomplished! I mentioned this in my Taking stock this spring post, along with my fears that they may not survive. So far, so good. They are both alive, though not actively blooming.
7. Pull out a dead Century plant and treat others for grub prevention. Mission accomplished.
8. Enjoy a spring-break visit from one of our daughters and her family. Mission accomplished in April.
9. Complete the CVG Miles in March. My goal is to walk 100 miles during March. Mission accomplished in March.
10. Visit one of the local butcher shops in the area. Not yet started, but I will carry this over to summer.
11. Hike the Lion’s Mouth Cave Trail near Cedar City, Utah. Not yet started. I will carry this one to summer as well.
12. Visit the Gypsy Emporium Antique Mall in Hurricane, Utah. Mission accomplished in April.
13. Hike the Elephant Arch trail. Not yet started. The trail has no shade, so this will either be an early-morning hike or a carry-over to fall.
14. Visit the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site. Not yet started. I will carry this one over to summer.
15. Finalize plans for summer girls’ trip. Mission accomplished. The actual trip is on my summer list. (See below!)
16. Start scanning physical photos for digital storage. Since the goal is to “start scanning,” I am calling this mission accomplished. This is a big project and will be on every list for eternity (or at least a few years).
17. Complete Orangetheory’s All Out Mayhem challenge. Mission accomplished last month.
18. Purchase a flagpole and get it installed before Memorial Day. Mission accomplished last month.
19. Start publishing videos again…on YouTube and other social media. (This is a new item.) Mission accomplished! Here is my first YouTube video in several years. It’s short (2 minutes). I’d greatly appreciate it if you would watch it all the way through and give it a thumbs-up (if you enjoy it, of course). Next, I’d like to learn to make more complicated videos that aren’t just me talking to the camera. Wish me luck!
That’s it for spring. Time to jump into summer!
Summer Possibilities list
1. Girls trip at Bryce Canyon. Mission accomplished! Watch for a post with photos coming soon. Here’s a sneak peek!

2. Have my annual exam. Set new health goals as appropriate.
3. Have my DEXA Bone Scan.
4. Complete Orangetheory PUSH 30 Challenge.
In progress. This challenge started just ahead of summer, on June 16. The goal is to complete at least 12 Orangetheory workouts between June 16 and July 15, with an added non-gym challenge each week. The Week 1 challenge is to implement one healthy nutrition habit. I have chosen to drink 2.7 liters (roughly 91 ounces) a day. That includes all liquids. I will aim to have at least 72 ounces of water a day.

The challenge started with an InBody Scan. I am pleased to announce that my body composition has improved since my last scan in March, and my body fat percentage is in the “green” for the first time!

In addition, my muscle mass is nearly even between my right and left sides. This is a big improvement since I suffered from Frozen Shoulder 14 months ago.

5. Finalize fall Mazatlàn travel plans.
6. Research the best time to start collecting Social Security.
7. Learn more video-making skills.
8. Visits with various family members.
9. See Wizard of Oz at Tuacahn Amphitheater.
10. Check out Dixie Meats.
11. Hike to Lion’s Mouth Cave.
12. Hike to Elephant Arch.
13. Take a golf lesson.
14. Visit St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site.
15. Maximize pool time.
That’s all for now. I’m sure I will be adding more possibilities as the summer progresses.

You did great on your spring goals/intentions and you have some great summer ones planned as well!
Thanks Joanne. I’m looking forward to trying some new things this summer.
Congratulations on all the success you’ve had! It’s wonderful to see those numbers get into the right color (whatever color that may be) I have to do my wrap up and then think up my summer goals. This is hard! One thing my husband told me about Social Security because I was going to wait until I hit 70 or 72 (I forget which) to get maximum payout. It would take me eight years or so to equalize if I just took it when I could get my “regular” payment at 66 1/2 years. I think there are charts or calculators where you can figure it out. It’s a tough call to make, isn’t it?
I love your goals for the summer. They sound like lots of fun and wellness! Good luck, Christie!

Hello Marsha. Financial decisions like when to take SS are challenging. You can go on their site and use the calculators to see what the difference in monthly payments would be. Then you just have to calculate the difference per month to see how many months it would take to make that up. To make it more confusing, you have to wonder if the rules will change down the road. I’m almost feeling like I should start collecting now while I still can! But I also don’t want to make any knee-jerk decisions. I look forward to seeing what goals you come up with for this summer. Whatever they are, enjoy!
Hi Christie – lots ticked off your list, and lots of new ones added – very intentional and productive on your part. 🙂 Lovely to see you on video and to hear your voice. My only suggestion would be to look more directly into the camera so it feels like eye contact with your audience. Other than that you looked and sounded fabulous – well done!
Hello Leanne. It’s been a lovely spring, and so far summer is off to a good start. Thank you for the feedback on the video. I was having a challenging time figuring out exactly where to look, so I appreciate that note. Like you, I always enjoy hearing the voices of people I normally only see still photos of and read their written words. Wishing you a pleasant winter!
Hi Christie, I love your goals and lists approach to wellness. My fitness level has dropped significantly during the past few months as I am distracted by other things. Thanks for the reminder to make myself a priority.
Thank you Suzanne. It can be challenging to focus on all the important things, and priorities are constantly shifting. I’m definitely in a health and wellness phase right now.
It’s always interesting to see when people say summer starts. Since I’m in Florida and it gets summer weather early, I’ve moved my summer start to June 1. (june-july-august being summer) Then there’s the summer solstice approach, another good marker. And last is my great-niece’s insistence that it’s the first day after the last day of school! I’m not doing seasonal plans at the moment but monthly ones. In fact, some weeks I’m just focused on getting through one day at a time.
But I’m hoping for some museum visits this summer (indoors when the days are so steamy), which includes maybe a short trip to Washington DC. I’ve got some points to use up for a hotel and there’s one there I’ve tentatively booked.
My favorite of yours is the Maximize pool time – definitely a summer thing to do!
I’m with you, Pat, I tend to think of June-August as summer. Since our bucket list group uses the solstice approach, I’ve followed that for my Possibilities Lists. Maximizing pool time is the one thing on my list I can guarantee will happen and has already started! I hope you get your trip to Washington DC. Happy summer!
I consider summer to be July – August – September. My plans for summer are to stay cool, keep my flower garden growing, and to try a few new cold salad recipes. I live a quiet life, but you knew that.
Interesting Ally. I guess how early it gets warm where you live helps determine what you consider summer. We’ve already been in the 100+ degrees here…so definitely summer. Your summer plans sound perfect to me. Enjoy!
I’m fascinated by the idea of a segmental lean analysis. Even when I’m well, I’m generally wonky.
I can’t remember what was behind your decision to visit a local butcher – can you remind me? We have a local butcher in our high street but haven’t ventured there yet as Himself is the cook, so I tend to allow him to make the shopping choices. When living on my own, I ate a lot less meat and so tended to go to a butcher and buy the best I could afford for those times.
The segmental lean analysis was eye-opening to me, Debs, and encouraged me to start certain exercises with my weak side. It seems to have made a difference.
A couple of things went into my decision to visit the local butcher. I wanted to get to know my area better, including visiting local shops. Also, they sell local meat, so I thought it might be fresher and have less impact on the environment (without the long-distance shipping).
Good job on your accomplishments , Christie! I really enjoyed girls trip in June. And I liked your YouTube video! (I both enjoyed it and “❤️” it. ☺️)
Thank you Cindy. Girls trip was delightful!
Well done on your video Christie, it’s always lovely to see and hear bloggers voices in real life! Your lists are all fabulous and, like you, I’m a list girl and they help keep me focussed. Enjoy your summer days and all those wonderful hikes you have planned. The scans are always a useful tool to see how we’re progressing, so well done on improvements you’ve made.
Deb #Teamwwwhimsy
Thank you Deb. I also enjoy hearing bloggers’ voices and seeing them on video. It makes me feel like I know them just a little better.
What a great list of “to dos” and “accomplished”.
I had my bone dexa (Im 75 and ostepenia) and not needing another one for 2 years but need to keep eating well (can be a challenge due to my oral cancer affected mouth) and do some strength exercises. I did start those but went a bit fast and now I need to let this poor body recover. I will!
As for scanning photos…oh it’s worth it but definitely not all at one. A winter time job I think.
Take care
Denyse
Thanks Denyse. It’s easy to jump all in on a new exercise and pay the price later. Good to let your body recover and do a little at a time. I’m curious to see how the dexa goes. My thyroid doctor ordered it, based on recent blood work.
Have already enjoyed your sneak peek vacation photos with the sisters at Bryce Canyon. Glacier is beautiful and will be another great photo op. I love Grand Teton, too. Wish there were more years in a lifetime, months in a year, days in a week, etc. because I would like to (re)experience those natural wonders with PC.
So proud of all of your work with Orangetheory and the Push30Challenge. It has certainly paid off in spades. And all of that despite having frozen shoulder issues and surgery. I am not back to where I was before ‘broken heel’ but I am working on it.
Will be interested in your golf lesson with the hubs. I offered to get PC golf lessons but he was afraid it would interfere with his baseball swing. That was several years ago. His love of baseball is fading some because ‘things’ just don’t work like they used to. He has significant shoulder issues, too. Thinking maybe it would be a good time to investigate golfing this fall.
I should have snapped a picture of my lavender. Ha!! It lasted less than a week. I hate bringing plants home only to kill them. I feel so mean!! Glad yours has taken off.
Looking forward to enjoying summer activities beside you!!
Yes, Leslie, there are so many places I would like to visit and not enough time to get to all of them. Bryce Canyon was fairly easy, since it’s only two hours from my home.
I’ve been in a fitness phase lately for sure, and it feels good. I know your broken heel put a damper on things for you, but I’m glad that you are gradually getting back out and about.
My husband has had issues with his shoulder and hand, so he’s thinking a golf pro might be able to help him come up with some accommodations. We’ll see. I’ve never been a great golfer. I just play along for the chance to be outdoors and enjoying the beautiful courses…and of course the food and drinks afterward!
Here’s to a fun-filled summer for both of us!
You did pretty good with what you accomplished!! I just posted my Goals and Possibilities List for the 3rd Quarter but will be posting about what I did and did not accomplish in June next week….Thanks for sharing!!
Hugs,
Deb
Debbie-Dabble blog
Thank you, Deb, and I look forward to checking out Goals and Possibilities Lists.
Hi Christie lots of missions accomplished but still some for you to get your teeth into which is good. Functional Nutrition is complicated and needs time so it is good you are pacing yourself. I didn’t realise you hosted a quarterly link up so will think about that for next quarter. I will also take a listen to your Youtube. Lots happening in your world isn’t there? Have a beautiful July and thank you for sharing with us at #WBOYC? Take care, Sue L x
Hello Sue. You are certainly right about functional nutrition being complex. It certainly is interesting to consider how everything combines to affect our bodies. We’d love to have you join us in the quarterly bucket list link-up. I find it intersects well with my word of the year and monthly WBOYC check-ins. Happy July to you!
I know I’ve said it before, but I love the intentionality of these goals. Well done on your You Tube video – it’s something that’s been on my list but, well… you know how it is. The questions you posed got me thinking, so that’s absolutely a thumbs up for me.
You’ve done really well Christie and your goals for the months ahead all look like a great mix of fun and adventure! It was good to see and hear your video it’s always fun to ‘hear’ the voices of our blogging friends. Well done!
(I’m sure I commented on this post earlier!!)
You did, Deb, but I’ll take double the kind words any day! 😁
You are doing so well at setting possibilities and accomplishing them. This is a fun link up. I’m glad I found it.
Thank you, Michelle. I’m glad you found us too! Welcome.
