One month passes and another begins

Here we are, approaching the end of one month and the beginning of another…the end of one season and the beginning of another. What better time to check in with our intentions, desires, or goals?

June is the time for dreams to take flight and soar into reality. Emma Racine de Fleur

As a reminder, instead of New Year’s Resolutions or a Word of the Year, this year I am setting monthly goals that support my core values: 1) health and fitness, 2) joy, 3) learning and growth, and 4) relationships.

Health and fitness

May progress

Research primary care physicians in my area, make a tentative selection, and schedule an introductory appointment. Mission accomplished. I have an appointment scheduled for later this month.

June goal

In preparation for my initial appointment with a new primary care physician, I have decided to track some important health vitals (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen level) and lifestyle habits (e.g., food, physical activity, and sleep). I am using a combination of iPhone and Apple Watch apps, as well as an old-fashioned notebook to accomplish this goal.

Joy

May progress

Get a massage. Mission accomplished! I had a glorious 90-minute massage at Melted Massage and am looking into purchasing a membership there to encourage my desired monthly massage habit.

June goal

Find a new nail technician and get some nail art. My longtime technician in northern Utah just retired, and we are spending more time in Southern Utah, so I find myself in need of a new nail technician. Also, I haven’t had anything other than solid color in more than a year. It seems like kicking off summer with some nail art would bring me a little jolt of joy.

Growth and learning

May progress

1. Make a final decision on the mindbodygreen coaching course. If it’s a yes, enroll. Mission accomplished! I did in fact enroll in the course, which starts in a few weeks. Wish me luck!

2. Visit the Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon West Rim, both places I’ve never been before. Mission accomplished! Bonus points, I also visited Valley of Fire State Park. I wrote a separate post with photos on this accomplishment.

June goal

Start the mindbodygreen course. Working on this course will likely continue to be my growth and learning goal for the remainder of the year.

Relationships

May progress

1. Take a road trip with our friends from British Columbia and then have them stay with us in our home.

Middle-aged man and woman on the golf course.

Mission accomplished! We had a lovely time together.

2. Have one of our daughters and two granddaughters come stay with us later in the month. Celebrate one granddaughter’s high school graduation while they are here.

Mission accomplished…or in progress anyway! They are here as I write this, and even brought a friend! Graduation is Thursday. We have two granddaughters graduating that day and couldn’t be more proud.

June goal

I chose two goals in this category for June…one close relationship and one for the broader human connection.

  1. Go golfing with my husband.
  2. Donate blood.

Your turn

  1. What have you been up to in May?
  2. Do you have anything exciting on the calendar for June?
  3. What else is on your mind? Anything at all; I just love to hear from you.

Can you believe we are on the verge of closing out another year and stepping into a new one?  At the beginning of 2024, I decided instead of choosing a Word of the Year or setting a New Year’s Resolution, I would set small monthly goals in four areas that are important to me, namely…

  1. Hi Christie – what a lovely month and the graduation pics were fun to see – gorgeous girls indeed. Glad you’re doing some self-care and that you’re inspiring yourself to take up the new course that starting soon. It’s good to keep expanding our boundaries when the urge hits – it keeps the mind buzzing.

    1. Thank you, Leanne. It really has been a good month for me, and I am deeply grateful. I’m a little nervous about the course now that I’ve committed, but I’m hoping once I get started, I’ll be happy with my decision!

  2. I’m glad you found a new primary care physician and hope your first visit goes smoothly. I’m thrilled to know you’ve decided on the mindbodygreen coaching course. THAT is going to be something else, in a good way of course.

No big plans for June, other than we’re repairing and repainting the stairs in our foyer that go from the first floor to the second floor. It’s a tedious project, but it is time to make it all look pretty again. That’s my kind of self-care, I guess.

    1. Thanks, Ally. I’m hoping this physician works out. Fingers crossed! Thank you for the encouragement regarding the course. If I’m being honest, I am a little nervous.

Good luck with your home improvement project. Sprucing up your surroundings sounds like a lovely form of self-care to me.

  3. Lovely to see the family photos. Well done on ticking off so many of your goals. Well done on enrolling for your course. I’m hoping we get to hear more about t.

  4. Christie,
Wonderful update! I started getting “monthly massages” a few years ago and it’s been really good for my neck issues. I find the best way to make it monthly is to book next appointment before I leave! I also get a multi-massage package which saves a bit on the cost. And then, I feel obligated to use them! Both are tips on habit formation.

May was a fun month here. I’m putting together my “I did it” list blog today. Biggest thing though was hubby’s knee replacement surgery. I’m playing ice-man… filling up his recirculating ice machine every hour. Hopefully recovery goes smoothly in June.

    1. Those are great tips on habit formation, Pat. Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m going to do both! I’m looking forward to reading your “I did it” blog post. I’m glad to hear you’ve had some fun! Wishing your hubby a speedy, smooth recovery. I’m sure your iceman support is helping. I’ve been in that role as well.

  5. Hi Christie you are certainly ticking off your boxes. I like the idea of monthly massage as I can’t tell you the last time I had one. I loved looking at all of your photos – such joy and happiness all round. Thanks for sharing your month with us at #WBOYC? and have a joyful June. x

  6. Well done you Christie. You set yourself some good goals and get through them. So lovely seeing the young people finishing school….and your joy in being with them.

It’s winter here now and whilst I know I am continuing to do well, I still want to have my walk in nature most days..and I am!

And congrats to you for accomplishing so many of your goals. I’m excited to hear about what you’re learning in the course you are taking.
I’m getting some health maintenance myself, now that schools out. I have a mammogram, an eye exam, and the dentist all coming up.
    Happy June sis!
