Thank you notes: little bits of gratitude from January 2022

It’s easy to get so caught up in the hustle of life that we forget to appreciate the small miracles that happen every day. I created the monthly Thank You Notes post to help me relive the happy moments, savor the gratitude, and share them with you. I hope they also inspire you to think about what you have to be grateful for and share them with us.

Thank you Universe…

Two brindle-colored dogs.

…for putting Buddy’s doppelganger on our walking route. It was so fun to see them side-by-side. While it doesn’t look like it in this pic, they were quite interested in each other. Also, thank you Buddy for getting us outdoors on a brisk day. I sometimes forget you can bundle up and go out, even when it’s cold.

Thank you Banzai Teppan Yaki…

Two sushi rolls with salmon and lemon on top.

…for the yummy sushi. These sunrise rolls were to die for. Of course, thank you, Cindy and Heidi for the excellent company, the laughter, and the stimulating conversation…and for not giving up when the first restaurant was closed for renovation. We never would have found this little treasure.

Thank you Buddy Dog…

Dog staring at rubber chicken.

…for the entertainment. This is a result of my failed attempt to throw his rubber chicken (Earl, as we call him) over the railing and down the stairs. Earl landed perfectly atop the railing, centered on the Ute’s blanket. I certainly couldn’t have stuck the landing like that if I had tried. Buddy didn’t know what to do. By the way, thank you Carrell/Arvanitis Family for the extra soft Utah Utes blanket.

Thank you Mother Nature…

Colorful sunrise.

…for the gorgeous sunrise to start the day and…

Pink sunset.

…the equally beautiful sunset to end the day. You never disappoint. I can’t think of any better way to end this month’s Thank You Notes.

WOTY: Connected

I decided my monthly Thank You Notes post would be a good place to share a WOTY quote or other update, so here’s this month’s entry.

True spirituality is to be aware that if we are interdependent with everything and everyone else, even our smallest, least significant thoughts, words and actions has real consequences throughout the universe.

Your turn

  1. What is making you smile today?
  2. What are you grateful for this month?
  3. What else is on your mind? Anything at all…I just love to hear from you.

  1. Hi Christie – I always enjoy your monthly gratitude posts because they’re a great reminder of how even the little simple things can give us a smile and realize how good life really is. We’ve just had our grandgirls for a few days and their chatter and joy made my heart happy. It was lovely having them, and nice at the end to take them back to their parents and enjoy the quiet of our home again (I think our cats slept for the whole day as they settled back into their usual routine!)

    1. That is wonderful that you got to spend some time with your grandgirls. And I bet their parents appreciated their alone time. I feel exactly the same way you do about having children in the house. I love the energy and the joy. Then when it’s time for them to go home, I love the quiet and the calm. And our dog always sleeps well after a visit. He’s quite social, so sometimes he gets a little depressed or lonely the next day. Our grandchildren are quickly growing up…the youngest is 12…so we don’t have as many opportunities for the little ones anymore. Although, I do have nieces with preschoolers who visited on Christmas, and it was so much fun.

  2. What is making you smile today? Funny stories that bloggers tell me. Honestly people can be so hilarious.
What are you grateful for this month? Grapefruit. This time of year we’re able to get fresh ones and I love ’em.
What else is on your mind? Not much. I’m in a mellow mood.

    1. People are funny, Ally. I have to agree with you on that one. Sometimes when they want to be…and sometimes by accident. I’m not a huge fan of the grapefruit, but maybe I’ve just never had a really good, fresh one. Also, I haven’t tried one in decades. Certainly my tastes have changed since then.

  3. Hi Christie, we don’t have grandchildren or pets, but I can certainly appreciate this post. We just spent two days with my brother and his dog Beau adopted us as honorary parents. The nephews and their children visited while we were there and the chaos that ensued was a special treat. I love the quote at the end – connected is a good WOTY.

  4. Hi, Christie – It is so easy to get caught up in th hustle and bustle of life.
Thank you for giving us this beautiful gratitude breather.
Especially love the photos of Buddy!

    1. You’re welcome, Donna. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Buddy is the best. I was hesitant to take on the responsibility of another dog after Charlie passed, but rescuing Buddy was definitely the right choice…for both of us.

  5. I definitely want those sunrise rolls again! (Thanks to Heidi for knowing we needed “just one more.”) I’m thankful for our monthly girls dinner. I’m also thankful this month for a job that I enjoy, coworkers I like and being able to work part time.

  6. Christie, thanks for stopping by my blog, Always Write. I’m going to link this post because it totally fits what WQW is all about. Not only that, you are in communication and my post this week is about communication, so I look forward to hearing what you have to say. You have a great word – gratitude or thank you. Either or both of those should make a super positive impact on your life this year. I look forward to your follow-up posts. 🙂
