April celebrations

“Life is not a problem to be solved but a reality to be experienced.”

~Søren Kierkegaard

I chose CELEBRATE as my 2026 Word of the Year (WOTY). One way I’m putting that word into practice is to take note of the many things I have to celebrate…large and small…during the month and sharing the highlights with you on the final Tuesday of each month.

April celebrations

Since it worked so well last month, I decided to use my camera as my guide again this month, so here are some of the celebrations that I photographed in April in the order they appear in my photo library.

Easter nails

I got so much joy from these cute Easter nails. I’ve said this before, but getting my nails done is one aspect of my self-care routine. In addition to the beauty aspect, I also get to enjoy delightful conversation with my nail lady, Kylee.

Decorating cookies

I’m not a particularly artistic person, so when a friend invited me to attend a cookie decorating class, I expected to have fun, but not necessarily to make art. Thanks to the clear step-by-step instructions, the final product wasn’t half-bad…for a novice anyway…maybe just one-quarter bad!

Another jigsaw puzzle completed

I received several jigsaw puzzles for Christmas, and I’ve been slowly working my way through them. For me, there are few things as relaxing and engaging as a good jigsaw puzzle.

Another Orangetheory Fitness milestone

My Orangetheory Fitness coach surprised me with the news that I have now attended 900 classes! That’s a lot of classes…and I’m still loving it!

Orangetheory milestone: 900 classes.

And more good news…my fitness is still improving, a fact supported by another personal record and my placement among my peers.

Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point

Combine time with family and the beauty of tulips…and you have a near perfect day.

Girls dinner with my sisters

Girls dinner is a guaranteed good time wherever we go and whatever we eat. This dinner was so fun, I failed to take any photos of the girls or the dinner, but I did get this snapshot of the variety of beers we prefer. Can you guess which one was mine?

Continued preparation for the Camino de Santiago

I continue to train for the Camino de Santiago and am pleased with my progress. I can’t believe it’s coming so fast…so fast that this time next month, I will be on my way to Spain. This month, I had the pleasure of taking a long walk with the sister that is accompanying me on the pilgrimage.

Celebrating my husband’s birthday with the family

I always celebrate my wonderful husband…even more so on special occasions like his birthday. This year we were lucky enough to have all of the children, grandchildren, some of their partners, and even the great granddaughter in one room at the same time. With a group this size, that doesn’t happen very often. When I look at this picture, I realize how very much I have to celebrate.

Since, the baby got swallowed by the crowd in the group photo…and because she is so dang cute…here’s another picture of just her.

Yoga with Adriene

Technically, this video didn’t come from my camera roll, but the yoga practice I did today fit so perfectly with my WOTY, Celebrate, I just had to include it.

Your turn

  1. What are you celebrating this month?
  2. What was the last class you took or new thing you tried?
  3. Yoga: yay or nay?
  4. What else is on your mind? Anything at all; I just love to hear from you.

I build the Thank You Notes posts around the photos I’ve taken over the month. While I have much to celebrate this month, I find I took very few pictures…and none of the people in my life. Please know that I am deeply grateful for the many friends and family that grace my life. A…

  • Thank you notes – June 2023

Thank you Mother Nature… …for the impressive clouds that resulted in rain… …that resulted in this stunning double rainbow… …and this random mushroom in our Salt Lake Valley yard… …and the beautiful orange daylilies in our Southern Utah yard. Thank you William… …for spending time with Buddy Dog and being a good (mostly) houseguest. Thank…

  • Friday favorites

It’s Friday again! Time to reflect on the good things that happened during the week and share the joy. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the fact that I ran the Bear Lake Half, but since I’ve gone on about that ad nauseam, I’ll focus on the fabulous “book ends” to that day….

  • Friday favorites: a beautiful day in the neighborhood

Happy Friday! It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood! Actually, it’s been a beautiful week around here–weatherwise and otherwise! 🙂 I hope yours was the same. Saturday was perfect football weather (yes, you can find football in the spring if you know where to look). These girls are 12 years old and fierce! I couldn’t…

  • Final Friday Favorites

Happy Friday friends! This week was truly fabulous for me, with the highlight being a return to Hawkes Landing after an 8-week absence. Hawkes Landing was just as beautiful as ever. • Thank you notes – December 2020

Thank you PPE… …for making this moment happen. I don’t know which one was happier, GG or Piper, but they both needed this hug. I know we all complain at times about having to wear a mask, but no one was complaining here. Thank you Larry for snapping this photo, so I could enjoy the…

  1. So many things to be happy about! I love all the pictures. It was fun for me to see the one of us. I think sisters are definitely something to celebrate! 💕

I’m excited and a little anxious for the Camino – in 30 days! I can’t wait to see what you will have to write about in June. (Or when you’re ready to post about your Camino experience.)

  2. 1. This month(today actually) I am celebrating 9 years sober!! 🎉🎉🎉

    2. The last class I took is a Kpop dance class which I instantly fell in love with and continue to take every Saturday!!

    3. Yoga is a definite YAY but so much harder than it looks 🤣

    4. I love you!!

    1. Congratulations on nine years of sobriety, Ashley! That makes me so happy. You are a warrior. I’m glad you found the Kpop class. It’s good to have something engaging to look forward to, and yes, yoga is harder than you would think. But I also love that I can find gentle yoga practices on Yoga with Adriene when that’s what I need. I love you too…more than you know!

  3. You had so much to celebrate in April! I love (and am slightly jealous of) the photo of your entire family. You are so blessed to have such a large family! We are only 13, but we are a lucky 13! I am so excited for you and your Camino walk. I’m glad you’re going with your sister. Hopefully, she’s been training as hard as you. Brava on the hard work at Orange Theory! You are an inspiration. As soon as life settles down, I’m looking for some kind of organized exercise. Happy birthday to your husband!

    1. Thanks Marsha! I am, indeed, blessed with a lovely family. My sister has been training hard too. I think we’ll both be ready…at least as ready as we can be before we actually get there.

  4. What a gorgeous family photo Christie – truly something to celebrate 🙂

I am currently celebrating spring flowers – tulips in particular, as they’re my favourite flower. Those pink ones with the pale tips are so gorgeous. I had a big bunch of them in my vase last week, although this week’s bunch are a rather unusual and full, dusky pink Ranunculus.
