Thank you notes: little bits of gratitude from November 2021

It’s easy to get so caught up in the hustle of life that we forget to appreciate the small miracles that happen every day. I created the monthly Thank You Notes post to help me relive the happy moments, savor the gratitude, and share them with you. I hope they also inspire you to think about what you have to be grateful for and share them with us.

Thank you Carmine’s Italian Restaurant

Fettuccine allo scoglio.

…for the delicious fettuccine allo scoglio and the pleasant atmosphere in which to enjoy it. Thank you to my sisters for creating a tradition of girls’ dinner. I love our time together.

Thank you Halloween candy…

Halloween candy.

…for being so colorful and fun to sort through, even without eating. Of course, let’s be honest, I did eat a few. [You may be wondering why Halloween candy is featured in a blog post titled Little Bits of Gratitude from November 2021. Full disclosure: these first two photos were taken in October after I had already posted October’s Thank You Notes. It didn’t feel right to discriminate against them, just because of the day they were born.]

Thank you fall…

Dutch Bros. coffee in a background of fall leaves and rocks.

…for the beautiful backdrop to my Dutch Bros. coffee. Thank you to the anonymous coworker who gave me the gift certificate, motivating me to give it a try. I was not disappointed.

Thank you Bobbi…

Female hand with red nail polish.

…for once again providing me with the simple pleasure of pretty nails and pleasant conversation.

Thank you Linda…

Small Christmas tree in front of a fireplace.

…for bringing a little bit of Christmas to our Southern Utah home. What a fun surprise to come home to. Of course, it broke my “not before Thanksgiving” rule, but it’s so pretty, how could I not leave it out?

Thank you Southern Utah weather…

Woman floating in a swimming pool.

…for allowing me one last swim before winter. Thank you sunshine and pool heater for making it possible. There’s nothing like 88-degree water in 60-degree air (Fahrenheit of course).

Thank you Larry…

A dog standing in front of a Christmas tree.

…for setting up the tree while I was out. This is Buddy’s first Christmas with us, and he is quite interested in the additions to our decor.

Thank you Kanyen…

Teenage girl and her mother with balloons and a birthday cake.

…just for being you. Thank you Courtney for letting us be a part of the big surprise, celebrating 16 years. It’s hard to believe. More great things to come I’m sure! (And thank you Courtney for allowing me to lift this photo from your Facebook page.)

One more thing…

The thing about Thank You Notes is they are built around the photos I have taken over the month…only I was having so much fun at Thanksgiving dinner that I didn’t take a single photo. And there weren’t any on social media for me to “borrow,” which is a shame, because the food looked and tasted heavenly. I just couldn’t let the lack of photos keep me from saying “Thank you Kenzi and Buddy for the delicious dinner and the delightful company.”

Your turn

  1. What are you thankful for right now?
  2. Do you celebrate Thanksgiving? If so, how?
  3. What else is on your mind? Anything at all…I just love to hear from you.

  1. I am thankful for my home and my husband and bloggers who take the time to be thankful! Love your tree, am jealous of your southern Utah weather– but in a good way!

    1. I must agree with your three things, Ally. We are blessed indeed. We’ve had that Christmas tree for probably 10 years. My husband doesn’t even take it “down” anymore. After Christmas, he will wrap it in Saran Wrap, put it on a piece of cardboard, and slide it into the storage space. Happy holidays to you and yours!

  2. So enjoyed your month of gratitude on Instagram. That seafood is mouth-watering. I used to do a lesson in the library where the kids categorized and organized Halloween candy in hopes of helping them understand the cataloging of books and arrangement of the library. It was a favorite lesson.
Will you drain the pool or cover it? We have never drained ours but alternate between covering and not! The cover tends to hide what’s going on below. For the good. And the bad.
Happy sweet 16 to your darling grand.

    1. Thank you Leslie. I’m glad you enjoyed the challenge. Funny story…I made it all the way through the 29th and then forgot to post the final day! Oh well…29 days of gratitude is pretty darn good. I love the sorting with Halloween candy. Whatever keeps their attention and makes the learning fun, right? We will cover the pool. The nice thing is we have an automatic cover, so we can open it periodically and check on things without too much trouble. We have the sweetest neighbors who watch things while we are up north. We also keep the circulation and vacuum on a timer, so the water is moving some. This is our first winter as pool owners, so I suspect there will be some lessons learned.

    1. Hello Donna. We have had some rain this fall, but could definitely use more. We haven’t had a wet period for quite a while. Up north (where we are most of the time right now), we are completely devoid of snow in the valley. While that makes getting around a lot easier, it’s not as pretty and, of course, doesn’t help with the water needs. Thanksgiving was wonderful…very much in the moment. Still, one photo would have been nice. 🙂 Happy holidays to you and your family!

  3. Hi Christie – so lovely seeing all your photos and to hear your happiness and gratitude shining through it all. November was a month of gratitude for me too as I turned 60 and got to share the occasion with all my family and with some friends along the way too. I might add that I’m also grateful for all you bloggers who’ve paved the way to hitting 60 with joy and a sense of excitement for what’s to come – it made hitting another decade a lot easier 🙂

    1. Hello Leanne and welcome to the 60s club! I couldn’t agree with you more, having this lovely blogging community really paved the way to making turning 60 a joyous occasion. I’m happy for you that you were able to celebrate with family and friends. Here’s to many more opportunities to celebrate in the coming year!

  4. I’m glad you have so much to be thankful for. That seafood pasta picture made me want it again! Is Dutch Bro. close to us? I can’t wait to get my nails done again after 6 weeks! I’m grateful for Bobbi too. I’m also thankful that I don’t have sciatica pain anymore. I’m grateful for my children who have helped us so much while I recover. And I’m grateful for this holiday season and the loving feelings it brings with it.?

    1. That meal was delicious, Cindy! Now, I’m looking forward to our brunch. Dutch Bros. is on 9th East and about 5600 South. I am so happy that your surgery was successful and that you had such good help while you recovered. Now bring on the holidays!

  5. Why has it taken me till the Halloween candy photo to realize your gratitudes always have a picture? Now I’m thinking you start with the photos…. OK, I will definitely need to try that! I did say I would use more photos on my blog now that I figured out how to insert them! Of course, I still don’t take that many photos… I might try an all-fall gratitude post. Thanks for the inspiration.

    1. You are exactly right, Pat. I go through my photos since the last Thank You Notes post and relive the happy memories and offer thanks to those people and things that made them possible. I look forward to your gratitude post. I hope you decide to do it. Happy holidays to you and yours!
