Thank you notes: little bits of gratitude from June 2022

It’s easy to get so caught up in the hustle of life that we forget to appreciate the small miracles that happen every day. I created the monthly Thank You Notes post to help me relive the happy moments, savor the gratitude, and share them with you. I hope they also inspire you to think about what you have to be grateful for and share them with us.

June gave me so much for which to be grateful, I hope you will bear with me for this longer post…it is mostly photos, if that helps!

Thank you Betty…

Family celebrating grandmother's birthday.

…for 95 years of life…for the joy, the lessons, the love, and just for being you. Thank you everyone who celebrated this momentous occasion with us.

Thank you Braxton and Maddi…

A male and a female high school graduates.

…for taking us along on your amazing journeys so far. Of course, you are just getting started, and we are eager to see where the next phase of life takes you and what you do with it. Also, thank you Courtney for sending this photo to me.

Thank you retirement…

A book, a beer, a salad, chips and salsa, and feet in flip flops.

…for the time to decompress and enjoy the small pleasures of life. Thank you authors and book stores and all those involved in providing my reading material…from light poolside reading to deep thought-provoking literature. Thank you Mother Earth, farmers, delivery drivers, store employees, and everyone else who made this delicious meal possible.

Thank you American Red Cross…

An iced latte and an American Red Cross name tag.

…for all you do to save lives and for the opportunity to participate in that effort through blood donation. Thank you healthy blood for keeping me alive and allowing me to give the gift of life. Of course, thank you Starbucks for the post-donation treat.

American Red Cross 1-gallon icon.

This icon represents that I have now donated 1 gallon of blood, which has saved lives at Jeanes Hospital in Philadelphia, Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, and Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas. My most recent donation is currently in storage waiting for the perfect opportunity to be put to work.

Thank you fried cauliflower rice with edamame…

Cauliflower rice with edamame and spinach.

…for your nutritious deliciousness! Thank you taste buds for the ability to thoroughly enjoy. What more can I say?

Thank you Bobbi…

Woman's hand with fingernails painted red and blue.

…for the patriotic 4th of July nails. There is much that is troubling about politics in the United States. If I am completely honest, I am not always proud to be an American. Still, there is much that I love about my country and the framework on which it is built. I love that people continue to speak out and fight for what they understand to be right…not just for themselves, but for all citizens. It is not the simple patriotism of my youth, but a more realistic, authentic love of country and people everywhere.

Thank you Rebecca…

Cupcake with frosting flowers.

…for the almost-too-pretty-to-eat cupcakes. They really were enjoyable to look at…but even more enjoyable to eat!

Thank you Becky…

Homemade bread and a knife.

…for the wonderful homemade bread, delivered hot from the oven. Are you sensing a theme here? Neighbors delivering baked goods = joyous gratitude!

Thank you Mother Nature…

Clouds in a blue sky over mountains.

…for the amazing, jaw-dropping display of clouds…by day and by night…up north and down south. I’m going to finish out this month’s Thank You Notes post with a mix of my favorite cloud photos from this month alone.

Clouds in a blue sky.
Pink clouds.

  1. As usual, I loved the pictures. Sweet Betty turning 95!

I’m grateful for the amazing storm we had last night. I’ve missed thunder and lightening like that and the water it brought was desperately needed. ☔️

  2. This, as always with your thank you notes, was just lovely to view. Getting right into retirement mode is both fun and interesting as life takes you along. Loved the tributes and the food shots!
May your July go well too.
I am grateful to be well, 5 years since my oral cancer diagnosis and surgeries.
And I am allowing myself more of a slow down for now. It feels good.
    Take care
    Denyse

    1. Thank you Denyse. I’m glad you continue to be well five years after your diagnosis and surgeries. One of my grandchildren recently had a cancerous tumor successfully removed. I am grateful for the doctors and other healthcare workers that took such good care of them. Take care of yourself and enjoy your more leisurely pace.

  3. As always, love your gratitude posts. I want your neighbors! Fresh bread – yum. Sounds like your first few days into retirement are happy ones. May that continue.

In June, I have to say I am thankful for science – having gotten Covid… yes, even vaxxed and boosted… it was manageable – maybe because I was vaxxed and boosted! All recovered now, but definitely “lost” 10 days in June – brain fog and fatigue. Making plans for July – it’s gonna be a hot one here. We’ve had multiple days with heat indexes about 105! Now, I need to use my camera so I can do a July gratitude post with pictures!

    1. I do have the most wonderful (and talented) neighbors, Pat. Thank you for the retirement well wishes. I too am grateful for science and medicine. I am glad to hear that you are fully recovered from your bout with COVID. Keep cool in July! We feeling the heat here as well.

  4. Gorgeous cloud photos Christie, thanks for sharing 🙂

June was a tricky month with some low patches to navigate. So, I’m expressing gratitude for the knowledge that I’ve experienced this before and know how to get out of it, and for my overall resilience because those lows will keep on coming round and that knowledge no longer phases me.

Also, I’m grateful for the advent of a new month. I struggle with temperatures in June – presumably as it’s the first month with raised temperatures, because I’m fine with higher temperatures later in the year. So, I’m grateful I made it through the month without a dizzy spell, and can look forward to lovely outings for the rest of the summer 🙂

Good neighbours you have there btw. I have one baking neighbour & she spoils us rotten. It’s lovely, isn’t it?

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed the cloud photos, Debs. The wonderful thing about experiencing a lot of life is the knowledge and confidence gained and the resilience that is built. I hope things are smoothing out for you soon. I do have some great neighbors with lovely skills. Sounds like you do as well.

  5. Christie,
You, indeed, have much to be grateful for…we should all be so fortunate! Let’s see, June, huh? Now, huh? I’m grateful that I just read this, it made me smile and gave me peace! Your gratefulness is contagious and that’s an awesome thing! I love your pictures! I’m grateful my dad’s still around and in good health and that we got to spend Father’s Day together. I’m grateful for my family and for the little inconveniences in life that remind me that they are not life-altering issues! God. I’m most grateful to and for God, who has given me another day to try and get it right. Who has my back! If He’s willing, He’ll give me a few more days as well. Mona

    1. It’s true, Mona, I am very fortunate. I am happy that you found the gratitude contagious. You listed some pretty wonderful blessings, including the reminder that every day is a precious gift. Just waking up to another should inspire thanks. So thank you for that. Happy July!
