Spoken like a true Libra

Let me start out with a big thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s getting to know you exchange. Many of the questions directed to me started with “What is your favorite…” If you read the responses, you now know that I may be just a little indecisive. My answers mostly said something to the effect of, “While I can’t choose a favorite…” or “I like… but I also like…”

Spoken like a true Libra.

Weighing scales with a sunset in the background.

While I don’t necessarily give a lot of weight to astrology, I do find it fun…and in my case, fairly accurate. Hmmm…maybe there is something to it. Then again, just being tuned into Libra traits may have led me to see more of them in myself. Perhaps I should research the topic of astrology further before saying I do or don’t believe in it.

You see the problem…I need to weigh all possibilities and consider all sides of every argument. It can lead to well-rounded thinking and solid decisions, but it can also be exhausting. Mix in some fear of making a mistake or choosing wrong…a pinch of people pleasing…and a smattering of procrastination…and you have the real possibility of getting stuck.

Thank goodness, I am also a goal-setting list-making overachiever, or I’d have never gotten this far in life. (I’m only partly joking.)

But I digress, I meant to share with you a light-hearted take on being Libra. Here’s a summary from mindbodygreen:

Libras are interested in finding balance everywhere within all aspects of their lives. They’re often stereotyped as being indecisive—but they’re just weighing all the options. Libras are non-confrontational but don’t always stand up for themselves… Libras are more passive and uncertain when it comes to relationships, but they enjoy the finer things in life. They enjoy dates at theaters, art galleries, and anywhere that allows them to people watch and absorb some art and culture… They possess the superpower of being able to see things from multiple sides, which can make them anxious, but are also known for their charm and sociability in and out of the office… Libra is the rational judge of the zodiac. We can learn how to be our most balanced, justice-seeking selves through this ethical energy.

I’ll take that. There are worse things I could be.

Whether there is anything substantive to astrology or not, this description reminds me of real-world strengths I recognize in myself and can exercise more and weaknesses I can improve on or compensate for.

  1. This is a great post.

    What’s your sign? Capricorn, I’m a goat.
Do you give any weight to astrology? I do and I don’t. I like to see what my horoscope says, not as something predictive but as something to muse upon.
Have you ever confused astronomy and astrology…like I did once in school? Yes. All good people have done this! 🤓

    1. Thank you, Ally. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Here’s something for you to muse upon. I just did a quick research on Capricorns and found this statement: “Interestingly, Capricorns are said to age backwards: they become increasingly youthful, optimistic, and playful as they mature.” Would you say that is true of you? And I am happy to hear that I’m in good company having confused the words astronomy and astrology!

      1. Definitely. I am much younger now than I was as a youth. Cue the Dylan song, My Back pages: “I was so much older then. I’m younger than that now.” 🎶

  2. What a fun post! I don’t give much weight to astrology, but I did look up my sign, Aquarius. It doesn’t sound like me at all. 😂 It says I’m very progressive, intelligent and original. For negatives it said cold, condescending, and unpredictable. Maybe I just don’t see myself as I am, but I’m pretty sure I’m supposed to be a Libra. 😉

    1. Hi Aquarius sister! I actually do see you as progressive, intelligent, and definitely original! I have to agree that you are never cold or condescending…quite the opposite. That said, you can be a Libra with me.

  3. Hi Christie – I give astrology absolutely no credence at all, but that being said, I do know that I’m a Scorpio and we’re supposed to be strong, determined, and a bit fiesty – I think my husband would say I tick those boxes quite well! It sounds like you had fun comparing yourself with the article 🙂

    1. I did have fun with it, Leanne. Fun being the keyword. I don’t take it too seriously. You must be just on the cusp of being a Scorpio, since I know our birthdays aren’t too far apart.

  4. My sister is a Libra and some of that description is her to a T and some is way off beam (like much about astrology).

I’m Taurus (a Fire Rooster in Chinese astrology), and unsurprisingly I can see myself in some of the traits. I am interested in it (as with so much else), but I don’t let it rule my life.

    1. I suppose we can find some traits that fit us in any of the signs, Debs, if we are looking for them. I agree about not letting any of this rule our lives, but it can be interesting and entertaining.

  5. I am sagittarius and I live up to some of the qualities…bossiness and fiery being two. Sigh. However I also try to weigh up issues and decisions and it can become very very tiring. I am becoming more of a gut and heart person these days with my choices.

Thank you for linking up this week for Denyse’s Words and Pics #WWandPics I hope you can come back for the final week on 18 October 2023. Warm wishes, Denyse.

  6. Hi Christie, I’m a Sagittarius and had to remind myself what I’m supposed to be like which gives you an idea how much I follow the star signs! I do agree with some of these traits especially the bit about being travellers and explorers!
Sagittarians are lively, passionate, smart and more philosophical than their clown-y energy may hint at. They love to feel free and resist rules, regulations, constraints and schedules. They just like doing what they do, when they wanna do it. They’re born travellers, adventurers, explorers and free spirits.
An interesting area I’ve not delved into much! Thanks for the fun post 🙂

    1. Yes, Deb, the explorer part is spot on for you! Like you, I don’t follow the star signs. The fact that Libras like to weigh everything out is easy to remember, because the sign itself is a scale. I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Happy adventures to you!

  7. I’ve never been a follower of astrology although I’ve dabbled in it. Being a dabbler does not follow my astrological sign at all! That is a Leo. I’ve never felt like a Leo. Here’s one description on Leo: “Compassion and big-heartedness, consciousness, drive, and natural leadership are the four main characteristics of the Leo personality. Leos are known for their generosity of time, energy, respect, and money. Leos have a natural sense of self-assurance.” This is really not me! I am not a natural leader, do not have a natural sense of self-assurance, am not really generous of time & energy, and I have never considered myself very compassionate nor big-hearted – I’m way to judgmental. Ah well, it’s fun stuff to look at.
    And hoping this comment posts….

    1. Yea, Pat, your comment came through! Thanks for your persistence. While I don’t put a lot of weight on astrology, I would say you have consciousness and drive, and from what I know you are compassionate.
