Looking for blog ideas? Feel free to borrow one of these.

Sometimes the ideas just don’t come. I was in that situation last week, so I took a blogging break. No big deal. But this week, I really want to post something…and I do have a couple of starts…but nothing that I’m feeling excited about. So before I pursued one of those half-baked ideas, I thought I’d give Portent’s Content Idea Generator a try.

The results were too good to keep to myself, so I am offering them to you…free of charge! Please feel free to choose one of these for your next blog post. I am eagerly awaiting the results.

She could never go back and make some of the details pretty. The goal then is resiliency, bouncing back after hardship,…

I recently read another good book I’d like to share with you. The Good Father, by Noah Hawley. If you’re looking for light-hearted comic relief, this is not the book for you. • Book recommendation: The One-in-a-Million Boy

It’s been a while since I read a book that I like enough to recommend to you. Recently I’ve read two, Lincoln’s Melancholy (which I’ll review in a future post) and the one I want to share today, The One-in-a-Million Boy by Monica Wood. This is the story of an unusual young boy bringing people together,…

  • Hybrid publishing: another option for today’s writer

I recently published a post on traditional versus self-publishing, and the discussion that followed was truly enlightening. I was excited to see how many of you are also working on books and making decisions about modes of publishing. I also learned of a third option for today’s writer: hybrid publishing. Because I don’t know much…

  • Traditional vs. self-publishing

There was a time, not so long ago, if you’d written a book that you wanted to share with readers, you had one option—query agents, survive countless rejections, finally hook one; then wait for the agent to try selling your manuscript to publishers, survive more rejections, and with any luck, finally sign a contract. At…

  1. “Ways your mother lied to you about retirement” made me laugh. My mother never talked to me about retirement because she didn’t work. That said, neither did my father (talk to me that is, as he did work). That said, anything they said would have to wait, because I haven’t retired and suspect I’ll probably work – at least part time – for as long as I’m able to. I’m 65, but it’s always possible I’ll change my mind one day! 😉

    1. That one made me laugh too, Debs. I was thinking that some of the mothers of our generation didn’t work. Mine did, but she didn’t talk to me about retirement really, and hers looks a lot different from mine.

  2. I loved these Christie – they make me want to read what the post would actually say. I’m going to check out the Portent for ideas because I’m feeling a little bit “out of juice” atm and have been considering winding the blog down. Maybe I just need an injection of inspiration – thanks for the link – I’m off to throw some ideas into the mix.

    1. I felt the same about these headlines, Leanne. I’d like to divvy them out and make sure they all get written! As I’ve mentioned a few times, I’m not feeling as inspired about blogging recently either, but I’m not quite ready to let it go either. I hope you are continuing to heal!

  3. I like all the ideas for a blog post, although “Why you’ll never succeed at wellness” calls to me. I have no idea what I’d write about it, but it seems like it could be funny. In answer to your second question, I don’t use any blog prompts/challenges. I freeze whenever I’m confronted with them. And as for headlines, I dream those up myself. Kind of my favorite part of writing a blog post.

    1. Yes, Ally, I’d love it if you did write the blog, “Why you’ll never succeed at wellness.” I think you could do it justice. The fact that you enjoy writing headlines definitely shows. I always look forward to them and to how the blog ties into the headline. No need to fix what isn’t broken. Carry on!

  4. Fun, thoughtful suggestions. Some of them are over my head!! Ha!! But I could write about retirement being a bully, oh, boy, oh, boy.

I am contemplating writing about my new car. All the guilt associated with getting it. Sometimes it is hard to put those kinds of feelings ‘out there.’ Will see what I come up with.

    1. Several of these headlines are beyond my ability to do them justice, Leslie, but they sure made me smile. I’d love to read your retirement bully post. I hope you write it one day. I’d also be interested in your feelings about your new car. We bought a new car for me right after I retired with the idea that my perfectly good Edge would live down south, so we would could drive back and forth together, but still have two cars while we are there, and I’d still have a car up here. As it turns out, we haven’t taken either car down south yet, so one is just sitting. I do have some guilt over that.

  5. I totally want to know what you think are the 5 insane truths about blogging! So many of these prompts lend themselves to “snarky” posts. I’ll need to look at the content generator myself and see what happens.

I know sometimes I run dry of ideas, but I also know I don’t like prompts! I need to let inspiration strike…and sometimes that comes from someone else’s take on life. Or as I’m doing right now, rehashing something to see what I can learn about myself.

    1. I might have to think about the 5 insane truths about blogging. That one caught my eye too. I typically wait for inspiration to strike as well. I haven’t been feeling too inspired lately…or I get an idea and then start writing and it just doesn’t take off. I’m letting things simmer on the back burner for now, so we’ll see what, if anything, comes of it.
